I just read that you can not take disposible lighters in checked or carry on luggage.. but.. can you by them on Disney property ?? or in the airport ?

Not sure if you can buy them on WDW property, but any of the gift shops will give you a book of matches.

I've bought lighters in the gift shops at the airport.
But, I head up to departures before I leave the airport. There are LOTS of people outside just leaving lighters on the ashtrays outside. I've also asked MCO employees that are outside the entrances for a spare...normally they have 3-4 in their pocket and are more than willing to give them up (because people leave them everywhere outside). When I leave MCO, I just leave it by the ashtrays outside for the next person. Odd, I know, but free!

I just buy one when I get to WDW. The resort gift shops sell them.

Some airports have "leave a lighter, take a lighter" bins near security. I don't think MCO does, however.

I also leave the lighter near the ashtray right outside MCO.

Oh good.. thanks.. that brings up another question.. can I take cigarettes in my carry on.. I am assuming yes

You can take cigerattes and matches. (And I know one person who has been flying for a YEAR with a lighter in the outside pocket of thier checked luggage... So far it's never been touched)

Here's the official word:

Lighters Checked Baggage Rules

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Lighters with fuel are prohibited in checked baggage, unless they adhere to the Department of Transportation exemption, which allows up to two fueled lighters in checked baggage if properly enclosed in a DOT approved case. Lighters without fuel are not considered hazardous materials and therefore are permitted in unlimited quantities in checked baggage.

My friend flew from Minneapolis to Orlando to spend a few days with my in April, and she tossed the lighter in her pocket, but forgot about the one in her makeup case. It wasn't seen on the x-ray machine. Your tax dollars at work.

My husband also, unknowingly, made it through screening on our return flight from MCO with a lighter in his backpack. I guess it's bound to happen from time to time. :confused3

Actually, it happens a lot.

SWA states that up to 4 safety matchbooks are allowed per person, carry-on only.

& as others have said, lots of lighters to pick from outside at MCO

:sunny:
