Just found and old park ticket...what to do?

I just found a 3 day park ticket in a box of old photos. It was last used (stamped) April 1984. What should I do with it. I think it is a no-experation ticket. As a child, I remember my father buying multi-day tickets to save money for the following trips.

Can I apply it to a new childs 10 day non experation ticket for my DD? :confused3

Thanks!

You could probably apply to a ticket for you (which would be a better value, since Adult tickets are more expensive) .

You can have it checked at Guest Services and they will tell you what is left on the ticket. Keep in mind when they apply it to a new ticket, they will use the remaining dollar value left from the original purchase. You may find it a much better deal to use it for park admission instead of taking the original value that is left to apply to another ticket.

Ditto this! Do not trade it in for cash value toward one of "today's" tickets. Disney will honor it and give you the correct number of days on a new myw ticket for no charge. You just get to visit the parks in 2006 while paying 1984 prices....now THAT's a deal! :cool1:

For this reason, I buy MYW 10-day non-expiring tickets to have on hand for years to come. Eventually, I will be touring the parks in 2012 or whatever for 2005 prices. I have an AP right now, but we don't always get APs...so the MYW tix will come handy when the AP expires.

For great information on tickets and upgrading, exchanging and the like, visit Deb's site...allearsnet.com

Thank you all for the great information. I will probably use it for our first day in the parks. Oddly enough, it is going to be on the same date it was stamped for in 1984. April 18!! Weird!!! :)

I may be mistaken, but I think you can only use it for the MK and Epcot since those were the only 2 parks existing in 1984 ? I'm not 100% on this though......

FYI, I asked a ticket upgrade question just yesterday and according to 2 CMs, Disney no longer upgrades any pre-MYW tickets unless they are completely unused. You can still use the old pass for the remaining number of days, but they no longer will apply a pro-rated share of the cost to a new ticket purchase.

I believe that is correct. When I used a park hopper ticket from 1995, I could not use it for admission to Animal Kingdom.

To OP, using the ticket for admission is a much better value.

We were there in Oct. and had 6 old tickets that I had guest relations check for me and two of the tickets were from when my kids were at the childrens rate. I asked about being able to upgrade them to the adult rate and the cost and she said that she would do it right there and there would be no cost to me. They were for 2 theme parks and 1 option on 1 ticket and 1 theme park on the other, the cost was close to $200 boy was I lucky.

I am interested in your response as I have a 7 day park hopper plus ticket that was never used from 2002 and would like to apply it towards a 10 day MYW premium ticket. I wonder if they will allow this. I will have to check to see if it is a good choice or not. I paid $291.80 for the one I have so will have to find out what the additonal charge would be if they allow it. Were you at the parks when you asked these questions?

No, but here is a link to the thread:

It is my understanding that posts 4 and 5 are both CMs. Note that the last bullet point in post 4 begins "If Guests have unused Pre-Magic Your Way Tickets..." and then goes on to describe the exchange / credit option you're looking for.

Hope that helps.

Thanks that is exactly the info I was looking for. It certainly makes me think I will take the ticket with me and see what I can do with it. -

To the OP: You cannot use it for your child but you can use it for yourself. Disney does not penalize children for growing up. You simply take that ticket to any Guest Relations location and after answering a few simple questions, they will issue you an adult ticket with the remaining unused park admissions on it for you to use. There is no charge for doing this. You must go to Guest Relations anyway because your ticket predates the current magnetic strip system and cannot be used as is.

To dblr: What you had done wasn't an upgrade. Disneyspeak is often at odds with the King's English. ;) Upgrades involve adding more days/options to a ticket. You exchanged your ticket, not upgraded it. :)

To castleri: Since the old ticket is completely unused, you will be able to do this. The ticket would have to be scanned at Guest Relations in order to tell you what it's worth. The price you paid may not be the price you receive for a credit as there are other things that are taken into consideration such as who you bought the ticket from. That's why no one can tell you how much for sure until the ticket is physically scanned.

And for everyone's benefit, there is no restriction in effect that limits you to only the parks that were in existence when the older ticket was originally purchased despite what is printed on the back of that ticket. Once the old ticket is converted to a magnetic strip ticket, it will be good at all four theme parks.

Thanks for the info. The ticket was purchased from Disney when the Disney Club discount was still available. It is the hard plastic credit card type instead of the paper (mylar) ones and actually has the price printed on the back-$291 Plus Tax. From that I am guessing it is worth about $310. It is probably a wash in considering getting the newer type ticket except that the new ones include Disney Quest.
Wonder if I could use it towards an AP voucher with my DVC discount. I know that wouldn't include the plus features but I have a few tickets that only have those left and I could just pay for DQ if I decide to do that with my son whose ticket does include it. It certainly does give me some things to think about.

sell it on ebay. :rolleyes1 :stir:

I though someone say that Disney did not include the value of pluses.

Disney is trying to do away with the older tickets.

however I would try the ticket with the machine. sometimes the machine won't accept it - but the last set of tickets either paper or plastic it will take - not a problem.

the old tickets (where they had to stamp them) it will NOT take and must be replaced.

We have just returned from a trip in Oct. I found 3 four day hoppers with one day on each ticket. We had other tickets too. On the day that we went to Animal Kingdom, the ticket scanner rejected the tickets, when the CM looked at them, he said , " the ticket is one year older than the park so it has to be used at one of the other 3 parks." This was not a problem for us because we still had Magic Kingdom to do. They worked fine the next day.

I have two of the old paper tickets left, the type that had the date stamped on them. They each have one day left. I assume that if I bring them to guest relations, they will take the tickets, not just stamp them "used" or something and return them to me -- is that correct?

I'm having a hard time bringing myself to use these tickets. I want to keep them as souvenirs!
