Just for fun...decorating the EVC?

This year my DH, 2DD and I will be at WDW the same time my in-laws will be in FL visiting other relatives, so we will have them visiting with us in WDW for a few days. My in-laws are both in their 80's and this will be the first trip to WDW for both of them. My MIL is much more active and can definitely take on the parks no problem. My FIL has a heart condition, a little overweight, and is generally not active. I'm afraid he will try to over do it with all the walking and exploring. We rented him an EVC so that he can experience all the Disney Magic with my 2DD who are VERY active, but he is not completely sold on the idea. I was hoping for ideas on how to decorate (tactfully and of course without ruining anything!) the EVC to make this necessity a little more fun for him. Any ideas are appreciated!

It looks like you are going at the holidays, so I will tell you what I did last year. I used a string of snowflake tipped LED lights that were battery powered to go around the top of the basket. I purchased three acrylic snowflake LED lights that changed colors. One was big and the other two were just the right size of smaller to make up a Mickey Head. In order to keep them in place I used sheets of craft foam. I bought one thick sheet for this and it was just the right depth. I mapped out on the back side of the sheet where I wanted the holes to be. I made sure that the on/off switch was easily accessible on all three. I cut the three holes and inserted the Snow Flakes to make the Mickey Head for the front of the basket. I decorated the board with some glittery snowflake craft foam pieces for the daytime, since the snowflakes didn't do much outside until after dark. I punched in holes at all four corners with a hole punch and used festive holiday crafting pipe cleaners to tie the sign onto the basket. It looked awesome and the best part was something that I would have never expected....people actually saw me at night! The ECV's have one dinky light at the lower front of the scooter and hardly anyone sees you coming at night, but with the sign on, kids were looking up and smiling and there were adults who consciously moved out of the way and smiled too. If I go during the holidays again, I am using the same set up again, because it worked so well. We didn't have to replace any batteries during our 8 night stay, so that was pretty awesome too.

There were people in the park with neon bars, wreaths with and without lights, and all sorts of stuff tricking out their scooters. You are only limited by your imagination and some common sense. Have fun working out something special for him. I bet he gets a kick out of it.

ETA: All of the lights were purchased in the holiday lighting section of Target last year.

You should look for Halloween costumes for wheelchairs (well, people in wheelchairs) and see if there are any suggestions you can adapt to make the ECV look like a king's throne

I love the idea of decorating my ECV. I want to cover the "rent me" sign. It would also make it easier to find my ECV among all the other ECVs when I park it outside a restaurant.

Last year during the xmas season I saw a lady with a EVC and she had it decorated with xmas greens and red bow. It looked very festive, Go for it!

It's funny, I just posted about this in another part of the forums.


When we went, I brought glowsticks, garland, stickers and we made little signs for the back. We even brought our own little horn because the horns on the evc's aren't really loud. My brother found one that played different tunes that always got attention. My mom brought a couple of pinwheels.

It just depends on what your tastes are and what you would like to do.

Streamers that twirl (plastic or paper) as you drive, glowsticks, flashing lights, horns, little headlights you can clip on. All kinds of fun stuff at the dollar store or the party store in your area.

Is that a Pride scooter? I recognize the wheels, but not the type of scooter. I am thinking that it might be a Celebrity or Victory, but I don't recognize the tiller style.

I have a Pride Revo 3-wheel.

And what kind of lift do you use? And is that a mini van or a SUV?

I have been trying to research for a future scooter and a SUV or mini van that could hold the particular scooter that I bought. I also have to consider how to carry the scooter. I really don't won't to break the new scooter down and put it in a car trunk any more.

I also am not sure about carrying the scooter on the outside of the car where it could be subject to possible damage or rain. I wish that I could hide it inside my vehicle so that it wouldn't be bothered with or subject to weather, etc.

I was just very curious what you use.

I usually go in December and decorate my scooter with a mickey head icon shaped wreath on the front and a small mickey head icon wreath with lights on the back of the seat.

Here a parital picture of my scooter with the wreath on the front of my scooter. It had Mickey head icon onaments on the wreath, too.

I am not wearing my Mickey Christmas hat and Mickey gloves in this photo, though.

The lift is a Harmar AL-100

It is a Ford Edge

I did a lot of research before buying all three. The lift with the swing-away plus the ECV weigh 328 pounds combined. The Ford Edge has a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds.

I special ordered the Edge to have the factory installed Class 2 hitch. Because it is factory installed it is more secure than aftermarket. Also, the cooling and electrical systems come with more capacity as part of the tow package.

A nice thing about the Edge is it is very easy to get into and out of for my height.

As far as weather protection; when I got the ECV I also got a heavy duty cover which goes over the ECV when the lift is up as well as a wide bungee strap to help keep the cover in place.

And it is secure as when the lift goes up a clamp comes down to hold the ECV in place and it takes a key to operate the lift.

Thank you, Cheshire Figment. I thought the car looked familiar. I really like the way the Ford Edge looks and it is one of my top choices.

For some reason, I thought that you had a lift that went inside your car.

I have been looking at the Pride Legend Legend 3 and the tilt a rack for an outside carrier, but I thought that I might eventually have a problem adjusting the carrier at the hitch site.

I am renting an ECV this trip instead of bringing my own......the poor little thing just has too much trouble making it up the mountain to the monorail!! I made a cover for the seat back to personalize it a little.

It is a fleece material. This is my neighbor's ECV that I hope the seat is the same size as the one I've rented!!

I will also bring the sign that goes on my basket. It says: "My other coach is now a pumpkin!"

i like to weave glow sticks (from the dollar store) though the holes in the front basket. makes me smile, plus it makes the basket more visible at night so people are not as likely to walk into it.
