Just finished watching the Olympic opening.....

Wow! I just love the Olympics, it's so wonderful to see so many people from different countries all under one roof. We have satellite so I caught it live. Very impressive show! Have fun watching

Saw parts of it this afternoon. We are lucky here. We are so close to Canada that we get CBC. They show things live. Not like American TV, whose motto seems to be "I'll show something live when you pry this microphone from my cold dead hand."

I was outside with the kids tho when the Americans came in. What kind of reaction did they receive? It has been in the papers that because a lot of Europe is unhappy with us that the athletes may get the backlash.

In the paper this morning it said that the insignia on the Americans outfits is rather small so it can be covered with a bag strap or something. It went on to say that we should act Canadian?!?!

Anyway were they cheered or booed???

American tv shows nothing live That's too bad. I was watching it on CBC as well, of course I think the US got a very warm reception. I didn't hear any booing. They were wearing the traditional Roots hat that I think they have worn before but I guess it's the classic roots style.

I just have to say, every single time I've seen the word Olympics appear in print--which, of course, is happening a lot lately--the theme song immediately pops into my head! LOL Does that happen to anyone else?

We are watching it now (between quick trips to the Weather Channel for Charley updates) and the staging is very impressive and creative. I love the costuming!

The water is a fantastic touch and really makes it all seem magical.

I heard on the news this morning that Iraq was the only other country (besides Greece) that got a bigger welcome than the USA. They said last night that even though Greece did not care for our politics, they love our sports, or something to that effect, hence the positive reaction. Wouldn't that have been horrible to have gotten booed?

I thought that the opening ceremonies were great. Ranks right up there with Sydney's.

I'm I the only one that absolutely HATED the dreadful and mildly offensive jokes that Katie Couric and Bob Costas were telling?

I thought the show was terrific! The execution of the Clepsydra was awesome in every way!

NO!!!! THEY RUINED IT FOR ME!!!!!

I mean I even like Katie but their commentary was just awful. I was esp. disgusted at the end when the person was singing and they would just NOT SHUT UP!!!

Hope you like the Canadian clothes the American team is wearing. ROOTS Canada made the team uniforms for Canada (been doing it for years), the USA (about the 2nd or 3rd time, I believe) and Great Britain. And those people you see burying stuff at the Olympic venues -- they are crazy Canucks burying "Lucky Loonies" -- Canadian $1 coins. A $1 Canadian coin was buried at centre ice at the hockey venue in Salt Lake City by the icemaker -- and we all know how the ice hockey finals played out there.
I didn't get home soon enough to see the US team enter, but I don't think anyone could have received a warmer welcome than the tiny Palestinian team.
There is an amazing difference between American and Canadian coverage and I've heard from many Americans who appreciate living close enough to pick up Canadian Broadcasting Corporation TV signals to get a true picture of what is really happening at the Olympics.

The opening ceremonies were really amazing. I enjoyed watching the part where all the people showed events in Greek history. They really looked like statues moving. So amazing!

I watched the HD feed last night. It was stunning. I think it was even better to not have to endure Couric and Costas.

Bjork? Sorry, I just don't understand her popularity. Dress was cool -- singing sounded like a bad imitation of Yoko Ono. I think Katie and Bob did us a favor by talking over that one! Overall, really enjoyed the opening ceremonies and look forward to watching the games.

I love the artistry of the opening ceremonies, but fell asleep 15 minutes into it and OF COURSE screwed up the stupid VCR. How many years have VCRs been around, and yet I still have the inability to program one. I'm just a big goofus. I'm beyond mad at myself.
