of our local newspaper about the unacceptable wait I have to talk to the school district on behalf of DS. I also plan to spend the day at the Superintendants office tomorrow waiting for him to see me. I will stay 'till school's out and if he or a rep from his office does not speak with me, our attorney is the next step. It is a shame that such drastic measures need to be taken. I also have 2 other Montessori schools to check out, but am afraid the monthly tuition will again be outrageous, but you never know what will work out until you try. The good news is I now have over 100 signatures on a petition that states parents are dissatisfied with the overall negative atmosphere of the school . I think that speaks volumes. DS has his own situation to deal with, but at least some other kids may benefit from all this.
Wish me luck! BTW....District offices know I am arriving there tomorrow, we'll see how long they choose to make me wait!

Wow ... I just read your other post on this after reading this one. your life sounds like mine 2 yrs ago. After 3 yrs of of fighting the school for our DS we pulled him out and now home school. We couldn't afford the other private schools around here and the Montessori school near us only goes to 2nd or 3rd grade.

I saw your questions about Montessori after PS and thought I'ld dirrect you to these boards MDC Learning at School

I think you'll find a few Maontessori families over there. Good luck in this battle. I know how hard it can be to fight a system that thinks it can do no wrong.

Holy cow Sha_lyn!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That web site is unbelievable! The 7 pg thread has me fascinated....and feeling as if I know nothing! I certainly have learned a lot, I cannot thank you enough for responding and sharing w/me and DS. I am going to get some sleep now, rest up for the weekly battle of PS:rolleyes: THANKYOU A MILLION TIMES OVER! Please know that you have given us one more thing to be truly grateful for this Thanksgiving holiday.

Finfan~ I have a feeling they won't make you wait too long at the Superintendent's office.

Good luck with the meeting!

You are so welcome.
I don't know what your opinion of home school is, or if your lfe situation would even allow time for it, but I thought I would bring up a couple of options that might be cheaper than private school. Of course this all depends on where you live too. Here because of the poor quality of the PS system and the expense of private schools many home school orgainzations have formed alternatives to private schools. One option I'm looking at for my DD for 1st grade is a 2 day a week private school. They attend school Tuesday and Friday 9am-2:30 pm. The price is $80 a month plus a $50 material fee. They teach the core subjects and art, music and spanish. Of course we will still have to cover material at home, but it will give her the school experience she wants but gives us more control over the direction and speed that she it taught. Another option is the local First Baptist Church has a large no. of home schoolers, and they too have set up a suplemental school. Through it we can chose one class a day or a full day of classes 4 days a week. They run about 50 per month per class.

If something along those lines interest you let me know and I might be able to find similar options in your area.
