It's just me and my husband going to Disney this fall  , and a dining plan for two? Doesn't seem worth it. Yes, it makes sure all the bases are covered for meals, but it almost seems like we'll have waaay too much food leftover, and it's not like we're staying in a room that's high class- ;) with a fridge, or whatnot.. All the leftovers would go to waste. I'm thinking, once we have a family, maybe a dining plan would make more sense. As of right now, we have ourselves at about 40-50 dollars a day ((including BOTH of us)) for food. I know it sounds crazy, but we're the laid back, hamburger french fries, type of people.. I guess we wouldn't get too much "use" out of the meal-plan.. Especially at the price. Am I crazy? :confused3 Even so.. I'm sticking with our decision!! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you've got it figured out. If you're not planning on spending approximately $40 per person per day, then definitely not go with the DDP. We cannot eat for that price when we're on vacation. We like the nice restaurants, not the hamburger/fries. So it works out best for us to use the DDP. We end up saving tons.

Basically, it seems like if a person/group is going to eat at a table service restaurant once a day, then the DDP is worth it. Even though my husband is vegatarian, so usually his meals cost less, it's still worth it for us once you figure tax and tip is included. You don't have to order all that is included if you're going to waste it! The only thing that made us hesitate about getting the DDP is that we'll be tempted to eat more than we would otherwise because it is included. We just have to remind ourselves not to do that!

When DH & I travel without our DD, we find that it's more than worth it. We ate at restaurants that our DD doesn't really care for & we ate just about every bit of food and then some :)

We are going on our honeymoon in September, and we are doing the Dining Plan. My husband is a big eater, and I'm looking forward to being able to splurge, food-wise. For us, it will be so worth it. Plus the added benefit of having your meals paid beforehand too.

just us, me and dh, and we saved several hundred dollars with the plan vs. what we would have paid out of pocket.:thumbsup2

A friend and I are going in December and I did a cost analysis of whether or not we should go with the DDP. Since we each pay for only ourself, each individual would only save, maybe, $10. a day - and that's eating only counter service (which I do like), no pleasant sit down meals, with an appetizer, entree and dessert. For me, $10. a day is not enough to NOT consider doing the DDP. But, I totally understand it in your situation and even a family. My DH has no interest in the DDP because he doesn't want to be tied down to a certain schedule for eating. :confused3 And I'm sure my DS8 wouldn't appreciate all that sit down dining. I figure I should enjoy the pleasant dining experience when I can. ;)

I'm with the OP. When it is just me and my son, we usually share a meal (I had gastric bypass and don't eat much). We do like sit-down dinners, usually prefer early seating times and then will maybe eat a snack (think churro, popcorn, etc) in the late evenings. We don't usually do buffet meals except maybe one time on our vacations and breakfast is usually cereal or something very light. CS for an early lunch is perfect. We would get the DDP if there were more of us, but for the two of us its just not worth it.
