This will be our first time on the DDP and I'm curious if most people use it to take advantage of the great food at Disney, or to get more character meals? DH is one who wants to "win" so he wants to get the most bang for his buck. Which is why we are eating at the finer restaurants and only doing the Princess Storybook Lunch with DD7. My sis just got back from using DDP for the first time and they ate every table service at a character meal. I agree that seems kind of a waste of money, but I was just curious how others utilize the plan.

We do both , we have ADRs @ Le Cellier, Ca Grill & Yak&yeti as well as LTT, Garden Grill & Crystal Palace. We feel that we get our moneys worth out of the plan by doing it this way and everyone is happy.

I got the plan because I didn't want to look at the menu and then scream at the prices. We made reservations for dinner nearly every night and have breakfast planned most mornings. I figure that will give us plenty of time at the parks since our breakfasts are before the park opens. I only have 12/21 meals plans on the DxDP and I'm ahead already by $8. I figure by the time we get home, we'll be ahead by a lot more than that.

we used the DDP in October for multiple reasons:

1) it was much more convenient to pay for all of our meals up front and carry around ONE card, then it is to pay for everything at the time of service
2) You can eat basically anywhere on property for the same price. We ate at Coral Reef, San Angel Inn, and several other places - had really great meals, and at the end of the day, it came out to way more than $38.99 per person that we would have spent (at the time the tip was included)
3) When your meals are paid for in advance, it's much easier to ENJOY the meal, especially if you know it's an expensive one. When we eat at WDW, we always look at the bill and cringe because we know that we spend so much money on food while we are there. On the DDP - you know that the most you are paying is $37.99 per person, for 2 full meals a day and since you don't have to fork over your credit card or cash each time you eat, you don't even think about it.

We do some of both. Our kids are still young, and we all like character meals, but we have others that we like as well. We're planning 9 nights/10 days in Nov, and this is what I'm planning so farL

Boma
Coral Reef
Crystal Palace breakfast
'Ohana (dinner)
LeCellier
Donald's breakfast (whatever it's called now)
Teppan Edo
Whispering Canyon

and one more yet to be decided, probably Chef Mickey's. We usually do a few extra character meals and pay cash for them, but the budget may be tighter this time. We usually do at least 5 character meals in an 8 or 9 day trip.

I don't worry about getting the most for my money, we eat where we want and order what we want. If I have to pay 4.99 for an appetizer, who cares? If we don't want dessert even though it's included, oh well. We just do our own thing, I guess.
