I agree with the general consensus here. DON'T TAKE FLASH PICTURES ON DARK RIDES. I want to add to that...when I say something to you about deliberately breaking the rules, and you make me explain to my daughters how I'm so proud that they are more grown up and mature than these rule breaking adult idiots who can't follow rules, please don't pretend you don't speak English. Even if you don't catch the words, you have to catch the point. Don't make me toss your digital baby into the murky Pirates water in order to get you to understand that you are not entitled to do as you please just because you are on vacation.

General rule of thumb. If you are on a ride, turn off the flash. Same goes for shows like Alladin at DCA.

The CM's will tell you each and every time, and then they watch you, and you'll hear announcments when folks don't listen the first time, and yet people will still ignore them any way.... goes back to me wishing they would start tossing people out of the park for doing it... I guarentee when some mom or dad has to explain to their child why they now have to leave DL because mom or dad couldn't follow simple rules, the word will spread like wild fire and future mom's and dad's will stop doing it...

I don't take flash photos on the dark rides but it doesn't ruin my day or anything if someone behind me does.

My last ride on pirates our last trip was so irritating. The people in the front row of our boat took sooooo many flash pictures. Not even with a digital, but with a disposable 35mm so it made loud clicking noises too.

if the ride weren't so long, i probably would forget about it and move on....but when you are sitting in a boat with these rude people on a long ride, it is one of the low points on my trip. seriously!

i know it sounds silly, but i guess it is just one of my pet peeves.

Please do NOT take flash pictures when you are specifically told not to!!!! This makes me so angry and I ALWAYS speak up about it. My kids always ask and they will even say quite loudly "HELLO, NO flash photos!!!!!" LOL Then I will follow up with a loud "AMEN" of my own. Then we talk about how they must not like their cameras that much if they would take the chance of having them taken by someone on the ride. LOL Then I have to tell them how some people (we don't limit to adults because many times it's teens) just don't care about others enjoyment in the parks and they are very self centered and rude. I get migraines, if I have even the hint of one leftover and someone takes a flash photo it hits me full force and then I have to go back to the hotel, take meds and sleep for about 3 hours which ruins our day. I would ask you to be respectful of others and NOT take flash photos when told not to!! Besides, someone will get angry with and toss your camera away. Courtesy goes a long way and everyone on your boat will enjoy the ride(s) much much more!! Thank You for thinking of others.

BTW-we were on HM and someone ahead of us kept taking pics, they stopped ALL of the Doom Buggies stopped the ride and removed the people who were taking the pictures. It delayed the ride for about 5 minutes while they escorted them off and before that the ride was stopping every few seconds, seriously...it was insane. We should have to asked to ride again but we just left.

Again, Please do not take any pictures especially on HM and Pirates !!!!!! I'm taking my in-laws for the first time and I don't want their first experience of to be ruined by someone who won't follow the rules. If there is anyone in my boat or in a buggie near me and I see a Flash, I'm gonna have to say CAN YOU NOT READ OR HEAR??? It says no flash pictures!!!!! I agree with the PP about just because your on vacation you are not entitled to RUIN everyone eles vacation!!!!!!!

azgal81 ~ I'm with you! I have *never* taken a picture of any kind in a ride, and don't think it is appropriate to do so. Yes, it is inconsiderate and annoying, but I have never let it "ruin" my trip if someone else does! Life is too short . . .

I really don't like when people take flash photos during rides. I hate having to explain to my children that some people feel the rules do not apply to them. Parenting is much more pleasant when I don't have to try to explain something I just plain don't understand. Why DO some people feel the rules don't apply to them?

it is very annoying to say the least. .. but can I expand this to say please also do not wear the things that have lights on them on dark rides. . . i had to suffer through looking sideways the entire POTC ride because some bonehead refused to listen to anyone and shut the freaking thing off and in some cases this extra light from that and flashes on rides can cause migraines as well as blinding and annoying your fellow passengers on rides.

i have noticed POTC is getting better about telling me people to not use flash photography over the speaker, but that ruins the ride as well. . .

OMG!!! Were you on the boat with me a few weeks back?!? This woman was wearing the flashing neon ears thing...And half way through the Bayou, I asked if she could please turn them off. She actually said no...so our boat was all one big gripe fest....It really is a testament to the entitlement attitude of people this day and age...
Back to the flash issue...there seems to be a loophole, as the words "technical dificulties" seems to have the same meaning as "let the flash photography begin"

Add me to the list of those who hate it. It's completely rude and selfish. I agree with Master Mason too, I wish they'd toss people out for not following the rules.

We always speak up too. No one should have the right to ruin the rides for everyone else. I'm also prone to migraines, so not only can it ruin my ride, it can ruin my trip (my migraines last 3 days).

Amazing how people can't think of others these days!

They didn't live close to DL was asking if DIS members could help by taking a pic of the skeleton with a sword through his stomach and a bird on his hat (right after the last drop on POTC). I tried to get it for him but was scolded by a CM over the intercolm.

I also wanted pics of Jack Sparrow after they added him, but they don't allow flash photography anymore. If I turn off the flash and take the pic it comes out really blurry.

It doesn't really bother me if someone takes 1 or 2 pics, but if their camera is constantly flashing in a row, then it would get a bit annoying.

Before I got my AP, Pirates was my favorite ride... Unfortunately, it seems like half the time I'm on it, there was some obnoxious guest taking flash pictures. Sometimes I wish I had kids already like some of the above posters so they can throughly embrass them by asking me why they aren't following the rules.

There's always this one guy that sticks out in my memory... He had a big camera so his flash lit up the entire room. A CM announced before the ride and during the ride on intercom that flash wasn't allowed and it didn't stop him. I turned around and asked him to turn off the flash, and he just asked, "WHY??" I reminded him of TWO reminders and our entire boat making annoyed comments, and he started cussing me out in like.. German or something... Got him to turn off the flash I guess....

I've seen some really cool Pirate art at DL that can be bought. Still no reason to me to break the rules IMO.

Check your digital camera! I got DW a small digital camera that has a "low Light" setting, plus you can "push" the ISO. (NO FLASH) The result is some great night shots at WDW. Including some frames of the fireworks! We also took a movie from our balcony of the music show in the lagoon at the Poly. A lot of cameras have this, all you have to do is read the instructions, and do a little practice shots at night before going....

Back to the original post....I don't mind general Disneyland flash photography, but like everyone else, keep it out of the dark rides. Me personally If its going to be a dark ride I will want to video tape it instead of photographing it. There are places and times where photography works well, but not in a moving ride in the dark, pictures just don't tend to show as the human eye sees it.

So to answer the question I don't mind seeing flashes of light on the river boat or in front of the Golden Horseshoe......or where ever it's not going to interfere with the magic of the Disney dark rides.(they are dark for a reason)

I have this picture in one of the two galleries I posted, taken without a flash.... in fact, I have had more pictures ruined by others taking flash shots at the same time that I am taking one without, then I care to think about.

If you need a picture, learn to get it without the flash, or buy a post card, or get it from someone else that can get the shot... Don't ruin the ride for everyone else on it... BY BREAKING THE RULES, thats what really gets me, what is so hard to understand about the fact that they tell you not to take flash shots??
