How many people are annoyed or offended by flash photography?

I know some people hate it, but I have a feeling that I'm going to be taking lots of photos the whole time I'm there. I just want to guage how many people I'll be p***ing off by doing it.

i am extremely annoyed by it. Once is understandable as an accident....after that is just rude. Its just not cool. It ruins the total mood of the dark rides. Pops me right ut of my happy place.

Plus...the pictures REALLY don't come out that great anyways. Buy the books and postcards they sell at World of Disney, you'll get a better shot.

I place my vote for "hating it!"

My very worst ride experiences at DLR have been on Haunted Mansion where the person in the boom buggy in front of me took at least 100 flash pictures; Soarin where a person took a flash photo during each scene, and Pirates where some fool took flash photos through the whole thing.

Please think of others and the fact that you are destroying the magic by taking flash photography on rides where it is prohibitted.

In '01 I had Lasik surgery done on my eyes so I don't have to wear glasses. I have perfect vision, so that is good.

But I have a VERY hard time going from light to dark or dark to light. It took about 5 minutes for me to be able to see much when we went to Blue Bayou. It takes me a few minutes to really see much on POTC.

Just as a get used to the lighting, some fool will use their flash, and I'm blinded again for some amount of time.

Using flash on the dark rides won't yield very good pictures, and will bother people around you, and if you're near ME, you'll be blinding me.

It doesn't bother me at all if your using it in places where you allowed to use it, It Pisses me off if you doing it somewhere were your not allowed to do it, and where your repeatedly told your not allowed to do it.

I wish that security would be sitting at the end of pirates to escort the folks taking flash photos out of the park after they come on the loud speaker and tell them to stop inside the ride..... If the started booting a few folks the others would stop doing it....

And if you happen to be next to me, your going to hear about it from me directly.

I took close to 1K pictures last time I was there, not once did my flash go off, and I have some pretty amazing pictures if I do say so myself.

If its in a spot that allows it...fine. But if you do it on rides that you arent supposed to, especially the dark rides where it ruins the experience for everyone....that does p**s me off.

I agree, IT IS VERY ANNOYING!!! Please don't do it in areas its not allowed. My 5 year olds knows its wrong, and has asked me many times why people don't follow the rules. I just tell him, "Some people are very rude and choose not to follow the rules". So watch out, my 5 year will loudly proclaim you are a bad person for taking flash pictures in the dark rides.

If you want to get pictures inside rides, head over to the photography board. The folks there will be happy to tell you how to get the best pictures, without a flash.

Don't do it on rides, its rude and in many cases you won't even get good pictures out of it. Don't ask me how many times I have had people blind me taking pictures in HM of the ballroom, the old bride in the attic (not sure how the new one shows up) and some other locations and it kills me because they will not show up. Because of the glass and effects many are killed by flash and you don't get much.

Try to take pictures without it, otherwise enjoy the ride and check out some of the amazing photos posted online. Personally I find it better just to enjoy the ride.

In those 2 galleries there are plenty of pictures taken with no flash in HM, PotC, Buzz, and Monsters... as well as night shots of the parade, castle, the Materhorn and others.... again, not a single one of them had a flash go off.....

I also vote for "HATE IT". It is rude and inconsiderate to everyone else; the same goes for continuously videotaping a ride with a light. It ruins the ride for everyone else. Besides, many flashes will only light well for about 15 feet, so everything farther than that will not show up well, if at all. So all those photos you take at night of the the fireworks and shows with a flash will turn into very nice pictures of the backs of people's heads (and maybe dirty looks too if they turn around). I also do not like people to talk on their cell phones during rides or continuously text message and shine the bright light of the display into the faces of everyone behind them. If you are on a ride with us and do these things, you will probably hear my young son complain and ask why THOSE people don't follow the rules. Please, if you have to take photos (despite being asked not to take photos), learn to do it without a flash, better yet, buy the postcards, they will look a lot better.

I have to disagree slightly here, there are only 2 rides I am aware of where they request no photography at all, soarin and ToT. I have no pictures of either as I abide by the rules.

But if they say no flash photos, that means it is perfectly acceptable to take non flash pictures, to me that is a lot of the fun in the dark rides, trying to get pictures that look good, and my photos mean way more to me than a post card....

it is very annoying to say the least. .. but can I expand this to say please also do not wear the things that have lights on them on dark rides. . . i had to suffer through looking sideways the entire POTC ride because some bonehead refused to listen to anyone and shut the freaking thing off and in some cases this extra light from that and flashes on rides can cause migraines as well as blinding and annoying your fellow passengers on rides.

i have noticed POTC is getting better about telling me people to not use flash photography over the speaker, but that ruins the ride as well. . .

Just wanted to add to this. There's also no photography of any kind allowed in Star Tours (once the ride starts). They're watching you, so beware if you try it.

Ok, so I take everyone's point. Most people don't like it. I just had to ask because personally it doesn't make a difference to me if people are using their flashes, but like I said, I have heard of people who are annoyed by it...

I know I wont be taking too many photos during rides because I'll be sitting back to enjoy them, but I have a feeling that I'll probably want to catch a few...

Greg your photos are amazing! I work in real estate and spent a good half an hour trying to take a good photo of just one room in a house today because it came over over exposed and then under exposed and so on and so on. I think I need to get some photography lessons...

Add me to the HATES IT camp! Flash photography totally ruins the experience in many of the dark rides. It's extremely inconsiderate and breaks the rules, not to mention you will enjoy the ride more if you just sit back and experience it NOW instead of being so concerned with capturing it on film to look at later!

Just a hint, last January when we went to WDW with my dad who hadn't been in 10 years, some fool in the doom buggy ahead of us in HM was using flash photography left and right, really ruined our ride. I told the CM when we got off the ride, and she let us get on again without waiting in line, and told us if that happens again, just tell the CM what happened and we could ride again, that they are aware because they monitor the rides.

It does ruin the experience for the other people on the ride. Ditto for people who text message during rides. You can see the glow of their phone screen. Don't be sitting next to my DFi on any rides if your flash goes off. I've seen him go psycho on people.

Sorry it is this attitude that really gets me, since you know they aren't going to throw you out your going to take them when you feel like it anyway, knowing it is breaking the rules and pissing everyone off....

Thank you, I have been working hard for the last couple of years learning and growing in my photography, the gallaries I linked to were taken at the end of Oct, and they were the first time when I got them all processed and looked at them, where I really said yes, I think I am really starting to get it now.

Again remember besides so many not liking it, many of the effects on the Dark rides WILL NOT photograph with a flash. As I mentioned earlier in particular HM is next to impossible to photograph (IMHO with or without flash, but that could be me getting use to my camera [note with out flash]). Most people don't get how the effects work on this ride. Such as the ball room scene might seem perfect for photos, but I can guarantee that if you snap a flash photo all you will get back (besides blindness for everyone) is flash flare. The reason... the ball room effects are created by a large sheet of glass, the piece is approx 10 ft in front of you. The subtle effects of lights on charecters like the bride, also get diminished with flash and disapear.

POTC has many spots that get messed up with flash too, and other dark rides move so fast you are not likely to get much more then a blur. Honestly save your photos for the outsides of rides and admire amazing photos like Master Masons for interiors, because trust me I have been doing many trips for photography to DL and still have a lot of yuck to show for it and I would hate to ruin someones time for a bad photo.

Please, really, don't take a flash photo.

You have to understand just how much Disney imagineers rely on smoke and mirrors in order to make effects work. The flash ruins it for others, for yourself, and for your photos. It doesn't just ruin the moment, it ruins the whole story line.

If it's during a show with any live entertainment, you could be seriously endangering the safety of the performers. When you're on a stage you have points that you look for and the moment a flash goes off it can ruin your concentration as well as your sense of barings. You can run into things, off a stage, just fall period. As a performer myself, I can tell you that the times people have used flash photography have been the times that I've turned in my worst performances.

Using a flash at all is just rude. Don't do it.
