Just curious with the restrictions with carryons...

I think they already charge disney prices . . . their budget is just hidden.
Nah... I think TSA's budget is Six Flags sized. For Disney service from TSA, you'd need a lot bigger budget!

I don't know if we should even expect Six Flags service - more like Sing Sing. Disney calls us "guests" and empowers its employees to stretch (if not break) the rules for us :thumbsup2 . TSA calls us "potential terrorists" and treats us that way :worried: .

OK, what's the deal with certain colors of crayons?

It was a joke.

I'm the exception. We're actually taking MORE stuff now. Before we were taking two carryons (one a 19-inch pilot case and one a 16-inch). But now that we can't take toothpaste and facial cleaner, we are taking two more checked pieces of luggage so that we have double everything in case a bag gets lost.

And yet I really don't feel any safer. :confused3

Have you travelled USAir thru PHL? :sad2:

Having flown both USAir and into/out of PHL, I would suggest that it is a PHL issue, not just USAir (although it is a USAir hub). My PHL experiences were not on USAir, BTW

PHL is problematic at best. USAir thakes it to the extreme. I try to just do carry on rather than chance the PHL luggage system. Toothpaste travels well in a pocket. :thumbsup2

Interesting. Aren't you supposed to empty your pockets before/at security?
You aren't suggesting someone travel with something prohibited are you? ;)

There is no requirement to empty your pockets at security.

In my experience they request/instruct you to take things out of your pockets that may set off the metal detectors - you do not have to "empty your pockets."

::yes::

Ah ha!!!!! Well, once again, we see differences in TSA procedures. So, since here is not a requirement for this, you could smuggle anything you wanted in your pockets, as long as it does not set off the detector.
Truly amazing.
Thanks for the info, Bicker.

Interesting, thanks for the info. These rules simply boggle the mind in the fact that they are not even remotely consistant.

Or remotely effective :)
Just curious - have you been told by TSA to empty your pockets?

I suspect that what we're seeing is simply a matter of language. You need to remove anything in your pockets that would trip the metal detector. It's practically impossible to explain the direction to that amount of detail, in a manner that will be immediately and absolutely clear and understandable to most every single traveler.

Yes, I have both in Hartford and the airport that serves Beautiful Bentonville Arkansas.

I've done six flights in the past 20 days. Lots of room in overhead bins now.
I've done 2 trips (1 with connections and one with non-stops - 6 flights total) in the past month, and I agree that the overhead bins now have lots of room. Now for the bad news - on 3 of those legs my checked bag didn't make it. Two came a day late, but one is "permanently" missing. That was for my dream trip to Beach Club with all of my new Mickey clothes - including a new Mickey bathing suit.

The bins are definitely less full. I've been flying every week since the ban including two trips in and out of MCO. You still see roll-ons, but I've seen people stopped at the boarding gate when the bags looked oversize and asked to put them in those size wize bins. If they don't fit easily they have been forced to check them. It was funny watching the guy in Memphis Thuesday sit on his bag to get it into the test bin and then not be able to get it out.

As an aside, I always travel with a PC bag that has the PC plus some papers and reading material for the flight. The shoulder strap anchor broke on last weeks trip (don't believe those Samsonite ads on how well built and tested their bags are - this was their top of the line bag and it was only 3 months old), and when I unloaded it to the new bag, I found lots of "banned" items (multiple lip balms, 3 smaller tubes of mostly used toothpaste, etc.) that were in a front flap I don't use much and had neglected to go through after the August bans. These have been through TSA security at MCO, SDF, CVG, BOS, MEM, ATL, YYZ, and LGA with nary a second scan, ask to look inside, etc. So shame on me for not taking these items out, but shame on TSA for "missing" them many times over.

You were expecting competence?
Heck, they don't even screen the commercial packages in the cargo hold.

That makes sense. Too bad they simply cannot put up, yet another, sign to that effect. Well, wait, people don't read signs either.

I certainly would understand if they said empty your pockets of anything that will trip the metal detector. Hmmmm, but, then again, there would be some that could not figure that out and would have a kazillion questions about that.

I certainly am happy I am female, not too many pockets in my clothing. :)
