We bought OKW in 1993 for $56 a point. Does anyone know what the rack rate was for a studio, 1BR, and 2 BR at OKW in 1993? Just curious as to how much the room rates have increased in comparison to DVC's price per point increases???? Just curious.:)

That is the same year I joined.
A lots depends on the season and day of the week:
My first year I keep an ongoing list of the days we went and how much the rack rate was for during those stays.
Here is the information I have:
July 4 - 5 - $329.00 per night
Sep 9 - 11 - $309.00 per night
Dec 10 - 12 - $289.00 per night

I know that you are comparing apples to apples but in reality would you book a DVC resort if you were not a owner?

Would you vacation at WDW every year if you were not a owner?

Prior to buying in we never paid rack rate for any room, we alway got a discount and we vacationed at WDW when we felt like it, not because we had expiring points to deal with.

Very interesting. I just checked the rack rates for the same dates in 2012

July 4 -5 - $355
Sep 9 - 11 - $315
Dec 10 -12 - $345

I'm assuming your rates also did not include tax.
Looks like there has been little to no increase in room rates but significant increases in DVC points and much more of a % increase to MFs, unless I'm missing something.:confused3

Completely agree. We are happy captives of Disney vacations and would never have gone as much or paid rack rate. I just was curious because quite often people on the boards want to compare "potential" room rate increases to "potential" Dues increases each year. I thought it would be interesting to look at some actual #s not potential assumptions for the future.

I think some people book DVC Villas because they need accomodations for larger families and want the kitchens and laundry facilities.

Would you vacation at WDW every year if you were not a owner?

Um, yeah. We have gone nearly every year since 1975. Sometimes twice a year.

Prior to buying in we never paid rack rate for any room, we alway got a discount and we vacationed at WDW when we felt like it, not because we had expiring points to deal with.

This is a personal choice and if people can afford it, why not? For us it was a quality of life decision. We enjoy our stays immensely these days and the fact that we can share with our family is worth every penny.

I'm a DVC owner but I know a family that A) always paid rack rate for DVC rooms (they preferred one bedrooms) and B) went once a year.

They've since bought into a time share in the area (not DVC) when they realized the folly of that.
