so i have been a member here about a month and got back into curves and have been watching what I eat. Problem is this whole month I have been more stubborn about if I cant eat what I want I just won;t eat. So I havent been eating much......Thinking Im afraid to eat cause I am not sure whats good for me etc. All the cheese and meats I cant help think there too fattening and most of all If im not hungry why should I eat. So i havent lost the weight I expected to and I am just bummed. I am aware of the whole your body goes into starvation thing but what kind of small meals should I be eating ever few hours? HELP PLEASE>>>>>>>

I wasn't losing like I "thought" I should either. I was analyzing what food was "good" and what food was "evil." It was taking up a good chunk of my day.

I decided to go back to the Weigh Down Workshop plan (a plan I had done a few years before and had great success with) Once into that plan I started losing easily--over 22 pounds in just a few months. It is a Christian plan, and involves bible studies, but in a *nutshell* you ONLY eat when you are hungry (stomach growling).....eat WHATever foods you want (nothing is offlimits) but you stop eating when you are satisfied (not bulging, gorged full)

The first time through the plan I lost 25 pounds easily and my cholesterol dropped about 20 points. This time I'm up to 22.5 pounds and I feel better than ever. And I do not put ONE OUNCE of my energy into reading labels or trying to figure out what I can and cannot eat.

I respect those people who do a "plan" and stick to it....but it would drive me insane and I'd mentally crave all the food I can't have. I like being able to eat all of the food's God has provided for me. I often times feel like a minority here on WISH because I'm not counting anything (carbs, calories, points, etc) The only thing I'm counting is the pounds as they fall away! :bounce:

Hun, the first thing that you need to do is to relax, take a step away from the scale and breathe. I am not doing a "plan", but I am doing a lot of different things. Maybe some of what I do can benefit you.

  1. I record what I will/have eaten on Fitday .
  2. I take my food list, and eat something every couple of hours. eg. breakfast at 7:00: cereal/milk or whole grain toast with or without peanut butter/cheese. I eat a banana @8:45. Some celery/carrot sticks or yogurt at 10:15. A light lunch at noon. Yogurt or 2 cookies at 2:15. An apple on the way home. Supper. And if I still have calories left, a snack of some sort @ 8:00 at night
  3. Water, water, water. It really does seem to work for me! Take half your weight, and drink that many ounces of water each day.
  4. I do Curves 3-4 times a week.
  5. WATP 5-6 mornings a week. I usually do 2 miles each morning (more because of time), but it might be 2 of the 2, 3 or 4 mile tape.
  6. Walking (on road) on the weekend. Usually 2 miles, but last week I did 5 k. YEAH!!
    [/list=1]

I do not choose a wee tiny calorie amount. I aim for 1400-1600 a day, and try for one less and one more a week ;) . I am willing to lose at 1-2 pounds a week, although I love the WHOOSH weeks. (They are usually followed by a week or two (or three) of maintaining)

It's working for me. One thing I like about my (no) "plan", is that I can have what I want, and I don't feel like I went "off plan". I just had more to eat that day. lol

Don't get discouraged. Maybe a formal plan is what you really do need. Lots of people need that structure. And don't have such high expectations that you become downhearted. For me, this is a change of my lifestyle. I am a whole new person! You can do it, hun! I know you can!

    :grouphug:

((hugs)),
I know this is not an easy thing to figure out how to get the right balance. Try not to worry so much about good food/bad food. Do you count calories, or are you just watching what you eat. You may need to have a more structured plan. That is why I like WW's. It tells me when to stop, and when I can eat more. I had a friend who lost a lot of weight a few years ago, and she hardly ate anything to maintain it. She just had a baby and gained 40lbs. She just joined WW's with me, because I don't think she was eating enough before. She hardly ate anything.

Thanks for poitive responses..... I am confortable doing what I am doing now which is simply watchign what I eat thing is when I do get hungry I eat bad food. anyway I am not gonna force myself to eat just watch what im eating when I eat (whos on first?) lol..think I just confused myself more.....lol. Anyway right after i posted that where I was upset about gaining a pound and a half...I got my period which hopefully Im not just rationalizing but maybe put a few pounds on me. Anyway the important thing is I feel good. I was just getting worried because I felt as if I was at this plateau so many talk about but it just wasnt my time to be there because I hadn't lost a signifigant amount yet. Either wway I am working hard to get my sec ond Clip10 lbs. Thanks again all I can always count on WISH.

There ya go thinking good food/bad food again. All food breaks down into the same thing....carbs, fats, vitamins, minerals, water, etc. Your liver cannot tell if you ate a piece of bread or a Twinkie! :)

In the Weigh Down videos the facilitator says if you are truly hungry and what you want is a sundae with hot fudge and nuts, then EAT it....and when you get hungry again and that's what you want, then EAT it.....you won't be able to do that forever (or for very long, actually) Your body knows what it needs. It will begin to crave what it needs. God did an awesome job designing our bodies in this way.

I'll admit (gasp) there are times when I have a bowl of ice cream sprinkled with Tang (mmmmm) for lunch. That satisfies me. Now, could I do that for every meal? No! Just the same, I couldn't eat a quart of blueberries for every meal (even though blueberries are considered "good food")

Radical, I know. Working for me? Absolutely! Working for lots of people out there? Yes, I know many. Gets a bad name because it doesn't follow worldly ways? Yes, unfortunately!
