Just completed my 2nd BLT stay

Decorating for Halloween on the week of the holiday could add to the mystique, due to the feeling and proximity fo the festivities. However, decorating for Halloween in September seems to have made this one balcony standout and it may have been out of place. In this case, it seems to have been an outlier.

The family was probably attending the halloween party - which Disney starts in September.

I'm a big fan of the Christmas tree swap around every year. I also think decorating the balcony is pretty cool too, however, I have to admit that I did not know it was against the rules. Most of the resort rooms do not directly face others although BLT and AKL are huge exceptions and I can understand some folks wanting something less than a Vegas view. On the other hand, a walk through Fort Wilderness at Christmas will make the balconies look mild by comparison.

I thought the bed at BLT was very comfortable. What was your issue with it?

We did have an issue with the couch, which has cushions with a slant that seemed designed to dump people onto the floor.

Why, that is simply DVC's way of cutting back on wear and tear on the couches as you spend most of your time on the floor, ;)

We found the bed (and the sofabed) quite comfortable.

Our issues were with the bedding left for the sofabed (one sheet, one blanket!!!), and the fact that the fabric weave on the sofa is so loose that the seams on the back pillows were fully frayed out.

It was a typical bad mattress where when you lay down you feel like you are going to roll towards the middle of the bed. Not to make a big deal, but it was memorable in a very bad way.

Update: I did get a phone call in response to my email from a member of the Disney Vacation Club Member Satisfaction team. I was glad they took my feedback seriously.

I was there in June and loved the bed. Our kids slept on both the chair/bed and the sofa/bed and no complaints from them about either.

I agree with reporting the balcony decorations issue to MS. It's a rule for a reason and should be followed.

After we stayed at BLT, we got a card from Disney (we stayed on cash) asking for input. I completed an online survey. Maybe you'll get a card?

Why do people have to nit-pick on stuff. So what if the balcony decorations are against the rules, I think they are nice. If DVC chooses to not in-force this rule, why worry and complain about it. The fact that they aren't may be because it is one of those rules they put on the books so if one family does put up something that may pose a danger or is just so in bad taste, they have a rule to point to. Relax, your on vacation so stop worrying about what your neighbors are doing..smjj

I hate to read about the bad mattresses. We are due to go in November, and I have a bad back and fibromyalgia. I don't need any more pains than I already have. Do you know if they have the egg crate mattresses to go on top? I think I read that people had used these at Old Key West.

I didn't think it was a nit pick to ask DVC to enforce the rules at the resort. Owners pay a lot of money to own DVC and truly it isn't a lot to ask Disney to make sure the resort remains it's "look" and rules are enforced.

I was relaxed, I wasn't going to let some bad decorations ruin my vacation.

I just found it interesting that some people think rules don't apply to them.

I just had an amazing stay at BLT (9/18 - 9/25) and I thought I would share some feedback here that I planned on passing along to DVC member satisfaction (I would appreciate if somebody could post their email address here).

First of all every interaction I had with CM's at the resort and in the parks was wonderful. People were polite, friendly, and very helpful.

The resort is beautiful and love the location. This is our 2nd visit to BLT and we were able to use the pool for the 1st time, it was relaxing, fun, and not crowded at all. Sadly, there were a few guests that decided to leave their trash and dirty towels on their chairs (my wife and I cleaned up after them).

We used DME for the first time on this trip and found it fast and easy.

We did not have one bad meal - now we did go to a lot of signature dining locations outside of the parks, but even the meals in the park were very, very good.

With that said, there were a some things I didn't like:

1. The room was not cleaned appropriately prior to our arrival. There were food wrappers and plastic utensils on the floor and wedged under some of the furniture. Decided to clean up the messes ourselves due to timing of dinner reservations and my daughter's bedtime but in the future would call mousekeeping.

2. The bed was very uncomfortable. I travel all over the world and have been in many different classes of hotels (deluxe, economy, etc.) and the bed in our room was in very bad shape compared to a “normal” bed. It was very difficult to sleep on and I was shocked Disney would allow a bed this poor to be in a room.

3. Management allowing Halloween decorations /lights to be hung from the balcony of a room on our floor. It was a complete eyesore and took away from the beauty of the building. I am not sure why this was allowed to take place and why the owners were not forced to remove the decorations.

As I said, an overall great stay and look forward to my next visit to the BLT in May.

I was there the same week...
The decorations on the MK view :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
I had to laugh everytime... they were lights on the balcony all around the railing and lighted pumpkins in the window :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
there was also a flag hanging for a few days on one of the LV rooms
We were at the pool 3 days and saw no garbage..
our matress was horriable as well... as in one side was lower then the other...
you forgot about the bugs they vacumed the ceilings everday by the elevator banks....I spent a lot of time picking bugs out of what is left of my hair....
Overall we would not stay at BLT again not only for the above reasons but we just did not like it to me you could slap Marriott on the front, and I would not go up any higher of a name on the hotel chain list....
but the location is great and the view of the fireworks is amazing just like something more themed.. BLT is by far not CR which we have stayed at a number of times...

Since they allow decorating for Christmas, I would assume they would also allow it for Halloween. It's just fun...cant see any harm in it.

Trying to not beat a dead horse here, but they are not allowed - now for some reason each resort can decide to bend the rules if they want.

My other question to member services was - do they actual audit each light string that is hung by a guest/member? Do they ensure that they are not a fire hazzard? I can't imagine the uproar if a guest's unapproved lighting casues a massive fire at one of the properties.

Having same issue with master bedroom in SSR Grand Villa. The king mattress is very hard, has no pillow-top, and is really thin (7" made up with sheets and blanket, measured using a pocket tape measure).

Fortunately, the queen beds upstairs (2nd/3rd bedrooms) have a pillow-top mattress and are reported, by our guests, as being far more comfortable than the king mattress in our room.

My mother suggests that a good vacation leaves you ready (eager) to go home at the end. On that rule ... I was missing my own beds on the first morning. ;)
