We closed on our DVC at VWL on Tuesday (YEAH!!!) and now another wait...... Hopefully the points will be loaded soon. Would I be bugging MS if I tried to call this weekend?????

Also, a I have a few (many) questions........

We are looking to go in October or December, whenever we can get the best reservation.

When I call MS, if I am within the 7 month booking period, can I just ask "What's available in October for 10 nights?" Or do I have to give them specific dates, resorts, etc? Also, do I need to have the points worked out prior to me calling if I know that what I am looking for is within the amount of points I have available to spend? We will need a 2br for 4-6 nights and then move to a 1br for 4-6 more nights. We are flexible with when we get those rooms and dates of travel. Should I start by asking for the 2br first? I thought it may be easier to "drop" the studio lock off, then add it later in the trip? Maybe I am wrong.... Any suggestions?

Also, since we are looking to stay in October OR December (whichever we can get the best reservations) and December is in the 8-11 month range, can I only check my home resort, VWL?

And if they don't have VWL like I would like, then can I wait list for both Oct and Dec at the same time? And have 2 waitlists PER reservation?

Thanks for any thoughts or guidance!

I'm no help with your questions since I'm just a DVC Rookie myself, but I just wanted to be the first to say

WELCOME HOME!!!

When I put in a call to MS, I have my dates, the resort that I would like to reserve, and I know how many points I have - and how many that particular reservation will use. I have had some issues with points and MS, so I like to be prepared - I don't like to depend on them to figure out how to best use MY points.

If you are calling within the 7 month window, MS can see availability at all resorts. If you are calling earlier than the 7 month window, the CM can only see availability at the resort/resorts where you own points.

You can have 2 waitlists total - not two per reservation. You could put in a waitlist for October and December at VWL for 10 nights, but for only 1 type of villa. A waitlist for 5 nights in a 2 bedroom would be one waitlist - and the next 5 nights in a 1 bedroom (for the same trip) would be a separate waitlist.

You need to find a points calculator to put in your dates to see how many points each resort requires. I think there is one on the Disboards somewhere.

You might try calling to MS and Quality Assurance - I think they are still the ones who set up memberships on the website. Then you could check yourself to see if your points have shown up in your account.

I don't believe MS can see "everything" available all at one glance. Anytime where I was making a short notice reservation, I usually had a laundry list (long!) of acceptable choices and went right down the list with them, one after another. I just did this recently to patch together a short-notice Easter reservation.

But you definitely need to know yourself how many points you are willing to spend and what options that gives you to pick from by reviewing the points charts. I like the calculator on David's DVC Rental website.

VWL may not be so tough in October, Epcot resorts will be basically impossible due to Food & Wine. On your December reservation, hard to say - that's a hugely popular time AND location for DVC members. Every day you miss the 11 month window will work against you. Once it gets to 7 months, it will be really difficult for early December.

I called last weekend to book a trip. I asked for any availability for 8 nights in a 1BR lake or standard view villa in July at BLT. MS was able to see the whole month and gave me the available nights (there were two sets of 3 nights together available in the month in the booking category I was interested in.) From there I asked about availability at AKL and OKW. She was able to pull both up and told me availability at each resort so I was able to make my decision.

Good luck!

Oh, and for what it is worth, it took 9 days from closing on my resale until points were available to book with.

Member Administration (not member services) loads your points. They do not work on weekends, so you should either call tomorrow or wait until Monday.

I think I would try for December because October is already past the 7 month window...my friend had a hard time booking a 2BR...she went with AKV but only because her first, second, third, and fourth choice were not available:) You could probably get OKW or SSR for October.

Yes you can book at your home resort for December now but have to wait til May for the others.Good luck and Welcome to DVC

I believe if you tell member services that you just bought in, that they make sure that your first vacation is where and when you want it. If they tell you it is not available call your guide and see what they can get you.

If they purchased resale this doesn't apply right ??-

Feel sorry for the person who couldn't get any of his choices. Could you possibly buy a dvc and never get what you need because of work constraints.

Thought you were guaranteed a week of your choice. Hope the op gets his points asap and can book his week.

Welcome home! Call MS on Monday...they have been so helpful to me, a newbie too! We have planned two trips in the last year, having no idea what we are doing. Everyone has been so kind!
