at the RPR! Checkin was fast and smooth. Lots of people here checking in this weekend. We will be so glad to have FOTL access. It's really hot, but we are so excited to be back. We have not stayed here since 12/03 and I got the flu so it was not fun! The resort still gives me the same great "island feel good" groove. Even though we booked an APH rate, they did honor our welcome gift. Tonight we will be having milk and cookies while watching the fireworks! I will keep you all posted!

Have a great trip !! Hope that Dennis stays far from the parks - hopefully you'll have the same experience we did with Arlene - clouds to keep the hot sun off of us, wind to keep us cool and an occasional misty shower - much better for us than the full-on summer sun and heat !
My niece and her family just postponed their flight to Key West from tomorrow morning to Sun evening. :umbrella:

Spidey...wish I knew where you were!! We're in 3700 until tomorrow and it would be fun to say hi!

Hey Spidey! So happy that you are back at Universal on vacation! Hope you have a blast.

Can you get a little info for me? Another poster said that they put basketball hoops up at the RPR pool. Can you tell if they are like the ones at HRH? Are there a lot of kids playing hoop in the pool? I ask because the hoop at the HRH pool is a major draw for my son--he will easily spend 6-8 hours in the pool playing basketball if we let him. We can get a better rate for our dates at RPR, but are likely to return to HRH for hoop at pool! Any feedback would be appreciated!

They did have the hoops up last week. Two of them. there were a lot of kids playing with each, but very fair about it.
They also had a volleyball net up.
The pool table is by the towels check out now instead of by the bar, the old towel check out is an ice cream stand.

The hoops are the heavy-duty kind w/base filled w/sand or water, metal pole and real hoop w/net....probably 4 or 5 ft. high. They haven't been crowded when we've come by. Really not nearly as crowded as I expected down here for 4th of July week.

Also just got back from our trip at the RPR. We checked in at 8am so there was no line, but it does get long in the afternoon. Our room was 2111, tower 2, bottom floor, because we took our lab. Those who are not pet fans will be happy to know that no pets are allowed in tower 1. They're all in tower 2 on the lower floors.

We had an AAA rate, and they gave us the welcome gift. It didn't arrive the first night because we had to change rooms after checking in. They accidentally gave us a smoking room. The next day, we called again and they eventually sent our welcome gift of cookies and milk. At first they said we wern't supposed to get it with the AAA rate, but then said since they promised it at check in, we would get it. If your gift doesn't arive the first night, just call down and ask, then it will arrive 3 hours later just as you are giving up and the wife starts to cry about it. Laurie was about to have a hissy fit, but then someone knocked on our door at 6pm and it was the wonderful cookies and milk. Two huge chocolate chip cookies, and a raisen one that was soft and chewy.

The pool is really nice. Yes, there are two hoops, it's a regulation size rim, a couple feet above the water with nets. Some kids can almost dunk on it from the water. When I was there, a crowd of kids were shooting, two basketballs, and a volley ball. Make the shot and you get the ball back. It was quite fun because 3 balls were always bouncing off the rim and you had to pay attention or get nailed. It was fun going for rebounds in the crowd. There's no way to play an offical game since you can't dribble in the pool, but having a shoot around is fun. There was also a group of people playing volley ball. Just swim up to a side, get in the action, and hit the ball over the net. Your basketball fan will have fun at the RPR pool.

Look for my TR in a few days. I have to type it up and make a web page with pictures.

Hi SpideyHulk! I also booked the APH rate ($159) for August and had the Reservationist put my LoewsFirst # on our reservations in hopes that the check-in clerk notices and puts us in for our Welcome Gift without paying attention to our discount code.

My question is: Did you check-in at the LoewsFirst desk or the regular front desk? Did you have to inquire about the Welcome Gift or did they honor it automatically? Thanks and enjoy your vacation!

Hi Spidey! Have fun at the RPR!

Signed,
A totally jealous Jodie!

RPR is always wierd about the welcome gift and upgrades.
