Just changed from OKW to SSR

Just got off of the phone with member services and changed our reservation from OKW to SSR 7/29 to 8/05/06 in a 1 bedroom. I have been thinking of changing to SSR (our home resort) for a few months and here are my reasons why. When DH and I stayed at OKW in February we were very disappointed with the condition of our studio. I originally wanted to stay at OKW this trip because we do love the "atmosphere" at OKW and we are taking DD6 with us this time, she has stayed at SSR & BWV in the past, and thought it would be fun for her to stay somewhere different. I also am soooooooooooo tired of all of the SSR bashing on these boards that I decided that I would rather stay at my home resort (nice, new, and clean) and prove to all of you nay-sayers out there that we didn't buy SSR points to take up space in your precious resorts! ROTFL

SSR always makes me happy and I think in the future that is where I will always try to stay "HOME"!

We switched from a BWV SV 1 bdr to a SSR 1bdr and did not regret it at all. We really had a great time!

Be sure to visit Community Hall with your DD and make the Mickey Ice Cream in a ziploc bag! My boys really liked that!

We did visit OKW and DS got to try out the new slide.

You are always welcome at OKW I'm sorry you had a room that needed some work on your last stay. We get one occasionally, too. Every resort has them from time to time.

Me too! whenever we are at DTD and someone ask , whats the resort across the lake? I say SSR thats where I live.

I just booked our next year summer trip after returning last week I have no problems if I can't get in anywhere else (not that I won't try) but we also have one coming up in DEC that I was going to try and change at the 7 month mark but decided we would be at DTD and resort hopping ( DTD buses better for this) so I didn't even try.

I was going to check today and it just went right pass my head as I was chating it up with a very NICE CM at MS .I had some other changes to do and did get that done.

Add me to that list of being tired of SSR bashers. That's our home. That's where we stayed on our first DVC visit. That's is where we honeymooned. We stayed at OKW after we stayed at SSR. Yes OKW did seem a little more run down, but that is to be expected. It's 15 years older(I think) We didn't expect it to have that new car smell. But it is a great resort.

The difference between a studio and a 1 BR is PHENOMENAL! We own at VWL, and love it there, as well as OKW (we're more the serenity-type vacationers). Our stay at SSR was great, even if it was only a studio. I'd recommend it highly.

I don't want to open up a bag or worms here, but can someone just explain to me why SSR has been "bashed" so badly?

We recently purchased there and will be there for the first time Saturday. I'm just curious.....is the place rodent infested or does the place stink?????

Why so many negitive comments????

And PLEASE!!!!! I'm only asking a question to try and understand "why".

Well really its just the same 2 or three people who had a bad trip, could not afford it,etc : who knows,they change there sign on name in order to keep bashing. Dont worry its a beautifull resort very well laid out with lots to do and a wonderfull pool,great walk to DTD now a super nice sit down restaurant the grounds are wonderfull. Enjoy and read all the positive post.

It's quite nice actually. But it has a different feel than the other resorts. It's very spread out. There is not quite the same community feel. It's not an easy walk to the spa or main pool. But it's a very nice place in it's own right. I guess you will have to decide for your self. We own at VWL but make it a point to try a different place each trip. We haven't found one we didn't love. Try them all!

I stayed in a 1BR at SSR and I was actually shocked at how small it was compared to the 1BR at OKW. Plus that, when we walked in, there was a gigantic, very noticeable stain in the carpet. Boy was I embarrassed. We had a guest with us. We moved to a grand villa the next day, and then back to a 1BR after that. In this 1BR, the TV in the master BR did not work at all. We had to call and they brought us a different tv, but that took hours, and we just wanted to watch some tv before we went to sleep. By the time the tv was working it was way past time to watch tv. Even though this is a newer resort, I guess you take your chances wherever you go. I prefer OKW, but I like SSR too. If everything else is booked up, I'm glad SSR is there because it seems to me there is ALWAYS room at SSR. They even got us into a HA Grand Villa on 3 days notice. What people don't like I suspect is that it is so huge that everything is so far away. There is no snack bar at the main pool. The pool itself is what I'd call lackluster and it may be considered kind of small. They are just now opening a restaurant. What bewilders me is whatever possessed Disney to build this resort? It lacks all the winning features of the other resorts. The theming is kind of goofy. Are there that many horse race enthusiasts around? After building OKW, BCV, BWV, VWL and knowing what people like, why did they completely leave those elements out of their biggest venture? I don't know what they were thinking. If it were me, and I was building something so huge, I would've tried to go for a better rooms size, a fantastic pool, good restaurants, etc. Then people would be crawling all over each other to get in.

Yep.....Let the BASHING begin!!! I was just stating a simple fact and we have to have someone go off about SSR. If you don't like "our home" DON'T STAY THERE!!!!!

Sorry. I thought I was answering Ms. WDW's question honestly. I didn't mean to bash nice or not. I will gladly stay at SSR if there is nothing else available. There is absolutely nothing wrong with SSR; after all it is DVC. Just to me there is no reason to stay there if something else is available. Do me a favor. Fill in the blank: I love OKW because of the island atmosphere and because of the large rooms, and because you park close to your room. I love VWL because of the lodge theming, Whispering Canyon restaurant, and the huge welcoming relaxing lobby. I love BCV and BWV because of the fantastic restaurants and the location. What I love about SSR is _______________. Lets turn the bashing around! What are some great reasons to prefer SSR?
