My family and I just got back from our week-long vacation at SSR, and we all had a great time.

The check-in process was relatively pleasant, but I think the counter boy was still new, because he talks very quiet and didn't write down my room number on our map, so I had to go back to find out the room number after we have already walked to our building. But it's no big deal really.

The room was very nice, and very clean. We did discover a pair of boxer hidden under the bed, but we just thought it was funny. We actually liked the lack of house keeping, because we don't have to worry about getting out of the room at a given time.

The shuttle buses also came fairly often and never had to wait for more than 10 minutes (actually more frequent than AKL), which surprised me because that's the most common complain i hear from this board.

We spent two days at the parks, and two days at golf courses and Downtown Disney. Wolfgang Puck is probably our most favorite restaurant there.

One thing that did leave an unpleasant memory in this trip, was the Magic Express for checking out. Our flight out of Orlando was at 8:05 AM, so we had to check-in the airline at 5 AM, which was fine with us, we didn't really complain. But when we got to the airline check-in at the resort, they were still closed, but the pickup bus was already there. So unable to check-in, the bus left us, the bus driver also told us there will be another one in 30 minutes. After we check-in the airline, the bell service told us there won't be a bus until 7 AM, and called a taxi for us, but we'll have to pay for it. The taxi driver was also very rude, and probably ripped us off on the taxi fare ($50), and even asked for tips when we got to the airport!

Anyway, over all the trip has been really good, and we enjoyed every minute of it. At first we were a bit unsure about our decision on buying into DVC, and now we are just glad we did.

Thanks for the report. We got back last week and really enjoyed our time (hope it wasn't me who left my boxers behind!).

We also love not having to worry about Mousekeeping. It makes it a much more relaxed time.

Thanks so much for the report. We leave for SSR tomorrow morning and can hardly wait.

Thanks for the warning about the Magical Express...I'll be sure to get our ducks in a row ahead of time so we don't have an unpleasant experience, too.

But it sounds like you had a great time overall!

After re-reading your post, the first bus driver still should have let you on the DME bus even though you weren't checked in for your airline. There are several airlines that don't allow checkin at the resort, but still allow use of DME.

I've used Magical Express twice now but never checked in at the resort because Southwest is not one of the airlines that does it. So, technically you aren't required to do it at the resort and can check in at the airport. However, our first time using it was a little confusing too so we just went out front and a bus arrived at the time they told us to be there. Maybe if someone had called the Magical Express # for you to tell them you were waiting there? Sorry to hear about the experience.

Yes, I should've just got on the bus and check-in at the airport. But when the bus driver told us there would be another one picking us up in 30 minutes, we didn't really think about it.

On the other hand though, if you check-in at the resort, your boarding pass is different - it has a Mickey face on it :)

I stayed in 3230, and can see the theatre from our window. Did you happen to leave the boxer?? :rolleyes2

We were just there a week ago and stayed in 3212. I never even thought to look under the bed.

Just to clarify, I flew Southwest in January and they now participate in the checkin with Magical Express

I am looking at renting at SSR. Is there a bus stop at the front of each building? Is there a bus to/from the pool? Is there a pool at each group of buildings like CBR? I have a walking issue so would I be better at another resort like WLV or OKW?

No, there are only three bus stops for the entire SSR I believe. Each stop is located near a group of buildings (ie, the springs, the paddocks, congress park...) I stayed ath the springs, and the bus stop is right in front of the pool. I am not sure if each group of buildings have a pool, but I assume so.

Fran - I've attached a link to a map of SSR. You can see that the bus stops are pretty spread out. Unless you're lucky enough to get a room in a building right next to one, you might have a bit of a walk.

I'm fairly young (25-34 age range) and had major back surgery last Feb. I found some of the walks a bit long. We were lucky to have a room in the Springs, right across from the Congress Park bus stop but due to the lack of internal shuttles, any time we needed to get to the Carriage House, we walked. It wasn't far, but it wasn't close either. Our building was not a close walk to any pool.
