I'm sorry if this was posted before. I get so much wonderful information from everyone I thought I would share what I just learned.

I have some Southwest credits set to expire in Feb 2011. We are flying in March 2011. So, I called and asked if they could extend the credits. The guy said I had to wait until the credits were actually expired before I could call and ask to have them extended. Then I asked him if he knew if I would be able to do this in February and he told me in the past, there was a fee per credit to have them extended, but he said there were lots of changes in the mix and the fee may or may not be available in February. So, my best bet is to use the credits before February.

Just wanted to heads up everyon what I have learned.

I'm thinking you might want to make another call in a week or so and check again. It kind of sounds like a nonanswer to me. I would want to have two employees tell me the same thing.

I wouldn't be suprised if SWA also dropped the ability to extend credits at the same time or near the same time as the changes to names matching the credits. It's basically leaving money on the table, while still providing a benefit that exceeds the market.

Most airlines don't extend the credit. It's extra money in their pockets. If SW goes this route they won't be doing anything unusual.

Most airlines also don't allow credits to be transferable like SW now does. SW is making them non-transferable in January, again following the norm for most airlines.
