Just bought the first gift card topayfor our trip!!

I know it's not much, but I just bought our first gift card for our trip in December!!! Lots more to buy ( my work bonus that will pay for the trip comes in March). Something about buying one made me feel like it's now a commitment to the trip vs just talking about it...and I had the inner joy of the 5% redcard savings

Buying gift cards is always a huge step for me too. I generally start saving in my 'trip fund' long before I start buying gift cards but like you said, buying the card is definitely a commitment.

I use gift cards as a way to 'hide' money from myself. Basically after I have already set aside my allotted savings goal I will go buy a gift card or two in order to ensure I don't spend that money on something else. This has the dual effect of getting me to save more money for the trip as well as forcing me to spend that money while I'm on my trip.

I just purchased my first one this week as well. I only got a 25.00 one. Since they sell 50.00. I'm just going to pick one up every 2 weeks from now on.

Congrats! I don't feel so bad because I have made 2 payments into my Disney Trip fund so far.
Baby steps! But I am determined to make this trip happen in 2014!
Maybe the Target Red Debit Card is something I really should look into...
