I finally settled on a new walk-around lens (up until now I've been using the kit lens). I'm a little worried about the aperture only opening up to f4 but since the lens will be used primarily outdoors and I have the 50mm f1.8 I'm not too bothered by it. Anyway, I wondering if anyone else on the board has this lens and how you like it. I don't think I've even seen a post regarding this lens so any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking at getting this lens and a Canon 40D...Let me know what you think.

Ben,

I purchased this lens as and alternative to the kit lens for the 30D. I must say that it is impressive overall. Sure, it isn't fast. Low light shots won't be the best unless you can use a tripod, but I used it as my primary walk around lens in WDW and around town here for about 9 months now and haven't had any problems at all. The CA seems pretty well controlled. I had some SERIOUS purple fringing when I took a pic of a tree this winter with the white snow background, but that is an extreme case and can't say as though I have noticed it in other pics. I think you need a real bad contrast of light to dark before you will see this. The IS is awesome. I think you will like it alot.

Andy,
Thanks for the information. I appreciate it. I am going to take a look through your gallery now. I found a bunch of shots on Flickr with this lens and I'm impressed with them, as well the lens construction itself.

Sam,
I'd be happy to tell you what I think of the lens once I get it. Hopefully in time for next weekend!
