Couple of questions about SSR

What buildings or rooms are the best?

We have young (preschool and 1st grade) boys and DH and me- what kind of room at SSR should we get?

Do they have elevators?

How much $$ is cleaning everyday?

If you don't get cleaning everyday can you get towel?-We use towels alot- would like to be more Green but hate to use a dirty towel!

Are the restaurants are good there?

How far is the walk to DTD?

Anything else I should know before we book?

Thanks!!  :cheer2:  :cheer2:

There are elevators. I can't remember much about the different buildings - we were in one that overlooked Downtown Disney and it was very nice. With your kids, I would get at least a one bedroom - if nothing else, it is nice to have the washing and drying machines. Also, you'll be in a separate room, which may be good for the sanity. The pool is nice, but usually very crowded. There is not housecleaning everyday for DVC members. Others on the board can probably tell you more about that. Have fun!

My 2 favorite areas at SSR are Congress Park which overlooks DTD and is a quick easy walk over there and the Grandstand which mostly overlooks the golf course, has a great "quiet" pool with splash area (and a pool bar :goodvibes ) Grandstand is also the 1st pickup/dropoff for the busses.

With 2 kids, if you have the points I highly recommend a 1BR at minimum. You'll have a kitchen (great for snacks, breakfast, I've heard some people actually cook in them ;) ) washer & dryer --makes the towel issue easier, a MBR with King bed (privacy is good), large whirlpool tub.;) 2 tv's, 1 in living room 1 in MBR (great when the kiddie shows get on your nerves)

There is an elevator in each building

You do not get cleaning every day. You get trash & towel service on the 4th day for stays of 7 days or less. If you stay 8 or more, you'll have full cleaning on the 4th day and T&T on the 8th(?). You can pay for extra towel packs, but I don't remember the cost of that or the cost for daily housekeeping. Don't forget that washer & dryer in your room if you get a 1BR or bigger villa :laundy:

Restaurants are fantastic!!! Artist Palette is the CS, and different from all the others. Really good food! Turf Club Bar & Grille is the TS restaurant and we love it! We've had several great meals there, good service & beautiful views of the golf course.

Walk to DTD will depend on where you're located, but less than 20 minutes from the farthest points out. There's also a boat ride to DTD from behind the Carriage House that goes to Market Place.

We love SSR  It's a beautiful resort, very relaxing :cloud9:

With little ones, I'd consider staying in the Springs. It's right across from the main pool and everything is right there. The other buildings aren't a far walk, but they aren't as close as the Springs section. The thing I like about the main pool is that it's zero entry. If your kids can't swim well, it's a great place for them to play and still have fun in the water.

If you have enough points, I would consider a 1-BR over a studio. With a 1-BR, you'll have a room with a king size bed and a separate living room with a queen pull-out bed. Also, you'll have a washer and dryer in the room and a full kitchen. IMHO, it's SOOOOOO worth the extra points.
Do they have elevators?
Yes

Mousekeeping, as they call it, is not cheap. If I remember correctly, the cleaning for a 1-BR is aroung the $60 range. As for towel service, I'm sure you can pay for service, but if you do reserve a 1-BR, you'll have your own washer and dryer and it's so easy to throw in a load of towels in when you go to bed, dry them in the AM and they're ready for you when you need them, fresh and clean!!! And most of all...FREE!!! ;)
Are the restaurants are good there?
The cheaper place, Artist's Palette, has flat-bread type pizza, sandwiches, etc. We enjoyed it, though I wouldn't want to eat there more than once or twice during a stay.

There is a nicer restaurant in the same building that's more upscale called the Turf Club Bar and Grill. There were 11 of us that ate there, and though expensive (about $20 - $25 for adults and $7 for kids), all 11 of us LOVED it. The food and desserts were absolutely WONDERFUL. We will definitely go back there again.
How far is the walk to DTD?
From the Springs, about 10-15 minutes max (nice stroll). On the way there, you will pass a beautiful section called Congress Park. If you're more interested in being close to DTD, it's the best location to stay.

Here's a link to a map that will show you the layout of the resort.

Welcome home!

We really enjoy our time at SSR, our kids love it.

If you can swing it points wise, a 1bedroom is nice for the extra space and washer/dryer, but if you are conserving points a studio can work well. Especially I think with younger kids. With a studio, you get free use of the washer/dryers which are located near the pools. So it makes it nice to throw a load in, go swim with the kids for a while.

We really love the Congress Park, Springs and Paddock areas. I don't think any areas are a bad walk to the main pool. Some take a little more time, but the views are wonderful while you are walking.

The food at Artist Palette is very good for counter service, it gets crowded so we try and go at off times.
We also enjoyed the Turf Club Grill on our last trip. I had the Ceasar Salad, it was wonderful! Everyone in our party of six enjoyed their meals there. Our service was great, very attentive.

For the kids, they have a very nice community hall near the main pool with lots of arts and crafts activities, video games and ping pong table.
The arcade is a little $$, but we had fun there also on a rainy day.
The main pool has an awesome slide, very fast. They also have a small slide for the little guys. In fact, that is the first pool slide my DD ever went down....she was feeling adventurous that day! Love the zero entry of the pool and the Donald splash area.
The quiet pools are nice also, my kids enjoy those as well.

We enjoy the proximity to Downtown Disney. I like the walk, the rest of my gang likes the ferry over. And the view at night can't be beat!

Enjoy!
