I have been researching DVC for months and never pulled the trigger due to the fact that we are Disneyland diehards and not nearly as drawn to WDW (esp. due to the 6 hr flight). However, for our anniversary I just surprised my DH with a trip down to the GCH for 2 nights. That finally sold him. We decided that 100 points at AKV really wasn't that big of a deal after all in order to guarantee the right to purchase at VGC. We do really love the idea of AKL - our girls are crazy about animals - and know that when we do make it to WDW Animal Kingdom would be our first stop anyway with Epcot being a close second since they are so different from DLR.
Anyway, we figured we could try and use our AKL points at VGC since we often go in the slower times of May and Sept. And if we couldn't use them at VGC we'd just save them up via banking and borrowing for the next WDW trip or trade them out or use them at the Disneyland hotels. For me, for a mere 100 points, that is sufficient value.
Anyway we will be adding on at VGC (hopefully 100-150 points, depending on the charts) as soon as they go on sale. WhooHoo!!!!!!
I feel really good about this purchase. I have determined not to look at the resale prices for AKV because it doesn't matter to us since we bought it almost purely to gain access to VGC. If VGC does make it to the general public I'll be kicking myself but who knows if I would have been high enough on the list to be able to grab points then. And still the peace of mind of having that guarantee is worth something to me and it's not like we can't use the AKL points - esp when our girls are older and we feel more adventureous. We also got our absolute ideal use year - December - yay!
Last but no least my DH was ready to buy then and there. I know him well - he might have changed his mind once we got home. Now he's moved on and hasn't looked back as is his way.
