I am so excited. We just bought a 30' Gulf Breeze travel trailer. My kids are driving me crazy to head out to the campgrounds already!:) Now if only I could convince DH to bring it to WDW, it'll be a hard sell, but I am going to give it my best shot!! Wish me luck!!

Congratulations on the new camper! Good luck on convincing your DH to make the trip. It doesn't matter how far away you are, it is worth the trip.

What's the deal with these guys that need to be convinced to take a trip to Fort Wilderness.

I remember when we bought our 5th wheel in 2003. Just a couple of days after I had picked it up in April 2003 I'm sitting a work trying to think of places to go. I only vaguely remember hearing about Fort Wilderness before, but next thing you know I was on the reservation site and had booked our first Christmas vacation at the Fort. Wooohooo. Told my wife when I got home. Didn't tell the kids until the day before we left for FL.

Congrats on the camper!!! I got my 1st this past October and its just sat in the driveway since. LOL Don't worry you will get out there soon. I'm looking forward to the first time I can get out locally with mine:drive:

To me its a easy decision to go camping at FW. We have no kid yet (soon to change) and disney is a great place. Take it from a beer drinking, gun shooting, 4wheeling, river rafting, modified golf cart, diesel in my veins guy. That your husband will love every minute of it.:thumbsup2

well, hopefully the hard part ( getting the camper ) is done and all it will require is creative reasoning. Only you know how he will react to different things. Pick a weekend ( or week ) far enough out that you can book a stay but, still be able to cancel with full refund. Then tell him how you were "just looking around and checking availability and you booked an opening. You might want to make sure you let him know its fully refundable by "X" date but you didn't want to miss out if he wanted to go.....

Or you might want to tell him that you booked a trip and its non refundable so he might as well pack up instead of arguing about it.

There's no better place to get use to your new trailer. Plenty of things for the kids to do while dad learns all the ins and outs. He can sit at the picnic table and admire the new unit. I could go on forever with reasons to visit FW.:drive:

We've driven from NH in a blizzard with our popup to FT Wilderness. Okay, so we should have waited until the snow let up... It was slow but we got there eventually!
Winter trips are the best to get away from the NE cold!

We got a new MH in October and were at the Fort for Thanksgiving! Granted we would have been at the Fort in our old camper had we not gotten the new one, but I might as well spin this the right way. For starters, convince your DH to make reservations, since it's much easier to cancel reservations at the Fort than it is to make them. And then you have until your reservation date to talk him into it!!! Spending any amount of time on this board would probably have him drooling at the thought of going.

Just make sure that you take your first trip in the new trailer soon and someplace fairly close to home. Maybe only a couple hours drive at most. Just so you can check that everything works like it's supposed to. It also gives you a pretty good idea of the stuff you need in the trailer. That shakedown trip can be pretty valuable, you don't want to travel a 1000 miles on vacation only to find out there is something wrong that cannot be resolved quickly.

Congratulations! A new camper is always sooo much fun! Lets see some pictures. Me and my camping friends think all camp grounds should have open house weekends so we can see the inside of other campers and how they camp!LOL:)

I'm sorry, but if you have to convince DW to go to The Fort then I'm afraid she's not the girl for you. She can keep the kids, the house and the bills but you take the truck, TT and dog (get one if you don't already have one) and head to The Fort, pronto.

I agree with mike a close trip to make sure all is working and make sure you have all the stuff you need is a good idea if this was a replacement tt i would still do a shake down run better safe then sorry if you make a big trip and it doesn't go well then you traveled for nothing and only made your self miserable we had to work out a few things with our first TT glad we were close to home so we could easily get info and help from our dealer good luck and hopefully you can get a trip to the fort soon

Have you had a camper before? Is this your first trailer? You might want to consider a couple "close to home" trips first.

So... have you camped in your driveway yet? :wave2: Our first two "trips" were "driveway campouts"... quick and easy way to start loading up the things you will need!

I find it hard to believe you have to "convince" someone to go to Fort Wilderness / Disney World! When we got out TT, I wanted to go the next day!

That looks like a really nice trailer, love the bunks and the toilet looks like you have enough room (critical thing!).

See you on the road!

Congrats on the new camper. We bought our first in 2005. Let me just tell you all this...we had never been camping before in our lives. As foolish as it sounds, we bought a 40 ft motor coach without ever camping or even driving a motor coach. It was one of the best things we have ever done. Ft. Wilderness is our favorite destination. We go about four times a year. We just love the atmosphere, and of course going to the parks. We wouldn't change a thing about the purchase we made. In fact, we even became DVC members so that we could spend even more time at the Fort (and of course all the other wonderful Disney destinations).

I'm sending positive energy your way in hopes it will help you to "sell" your DH on a Ft. Wilderness stay very soon.
