Hi everyone just booked our first trip to the fort. We will be there next year for 2 weeks in June. I am so excited. Have been reading the camping boards for years and it has been my dream to go there. Funny thing is we don't have the camper yet but we are going to look at a used one next Sunday. I've learned a lot from all of you and hope to learn more before the big day comes. Thank you all for being nice enough to share your experiences with people like me who have never done much camping. It makes me think we can do this and the great thing is we will be able to bring our dogs with us.

Anneliese,

:welcome: to the DIS Camping Board :disrocks:.

There is no pressure to get a camper before you come because you can always rent a camper as you've probably read on the boards. That should take some of the pressure off so look around, find the right one, and try it out around home before you come to the Fort if you find "the one".

We all started out as newbies so we know where you're coming from. Don't hesitate to ask a question (although we do hope you use the SEARCH function sometimes) and some fellow DISser will help you out.

BTW, you CAN do this. And once you do it I doubt you'll go back to the old way of visiting WDW.::yes::

PS - make sure you leave a day or two or parts of your visit to just relax and enjoy the Fort.

You are braver than I am! Got trailer before booking here! Going to pick it up in Ohio on First weekend in May. Planning lots of local weekends here in CT for summer to get comfy with the whole thing...have friends and family that have been camping CT for years to draw on experience.

The big trip has been booked, though. Just booked Fort for Sept. 21-27!! Woohoo!! (no hurricanes, no hurricanes, no hurricanes). Camped there with parents long time ago. Made visits several times (just to walk around, campfire sing-a-long). Have been Marriott and DVC resort last 5 years , so very excited to stay there this year!

The Fort does not disappoint. Be careful though it is addictive.

So I've heard...lol. This board has certainly been inspirational. Been wanting to get trailer for years, and now that the kids are 4 and 7, seems like perfect time. Addiction to Disney and having Fort available is big bonus!

Love this picture from dealer website..had to post it!:cool1::woohoo:

We don't have our travel trailer either and we booked for October!

I'm glad I'm not the only one without the trailer. LOL. I've been reading these boards for quite awhile now but didn't want to post because of the lack of a camper. Some of the stories on here have made me laugh more then once. The one that sticks out the most is when someone asked if others would be willing to help them if they couldn't back in and the reply was yes but only after they had sat and watched the show first. I told my husband that will be us. So if any of you are there next June and you see two old people looking like fools and two Britts barking because their humans have lost their minds don't worry it will be just the Hotellings from PA. Trying to act like they know what to do. We will definitely need a bottle of wine when were done. LOL. Thanks for welcome. :)

Anneliese,

I admit I am one of those that like to watch folks back in. I'm not proud of it but I can't help it. I'll turn my chair around to sit in the shadows and watch (with binoculars if needed) a good train wreck.

I bet by the time your trip rolls around, though, you'll be old pros at backing in. Hope you got a Premium site. They're plenty big and wide. Why I bet even our Rusty Scupper could back an RV into a Premium site. I've heard rumors he can parallel park a monorail lashup. ;)

PS - 4077, good looking rig

We are going to become good friends. I think we have the same sense of humor. I would be one of those people trying not to laugh also. Why yes we did reserve a premium site. How did you know? LOL I was hoping they would be pull thru and then I read recently that they are not. Actually hubby used to work on trucks in his younger days while in the Army so I think he will be ok. The camper we are going to look at Sunday is a 5th wheel 2007 Keystone Cougar model 276RLS. The people who own it used it one time to go to Florida for 2 Weeks and it has been covered and kept in the barn since. In fact she just took the plastic off of everything this past week so she could clean it up before we look at it. Were thinking it will be a pretty good deal for us. Just want to make sure there is enough room for the dogs and my grandson when he goes with us. It's not the class A we had hoped to be able to get but it's a camper and it is in our price range.so it's all good

Samroc,

I went and looked up the Rockwood model number after your post and saw it was the same floorplan....like looking at the Chevy Tahoe vs. the GMC Yukon. funny how that works once everyone comes under the same umbrella (Forest River). However, I always thought GMC was supposed to be slightly classier maybe? Not sure about the idea of having Rockwood and Flagstaff with what seem to be identical floor plans. Perhaps same idea? I dunno....:confused3

Yes, there are FR products that match another, while the floor plan loyout may be the same. What I found is Rockwood will have X colors and equipment, while cougar would have similar but different finishes and equipment.

We are going to the rv show at the pnc bank arts center here in jersey. it runs may 2 - 4. this way we can look at more models and be more confused!! lol

Good luck! Was fun looking, but glad to have it decided! Been looking for last couple years and on and off a bit longer than that...

We live right near PNC Arts Center and I had no idea there was an RV show! I'll have to look it up. Though we shopped so long for an RV I am rv showed out!

The show can either add to the confusion or give you a moment of clarity. For the first show was absolutely overwhelming, though it was the Hershey show which is HUGE.

A few weeks later I actually had a better idea of what I wanted and started to look. Then an awesome deal landed in my lap that I could not turn down and I found myself in a 2001 Monaco in early 2009. I traded that in in October 2013 at the Hershey show for a 2014 5th wheel which dropped my payment (though reextended it.) And since I had the truck it was an easy move.
