I'm so excited for him and a little jelous!;) I will be taking my kids to watch Dad, they are 8 and 11. The RPDE rep. said we will get to take a track tour in a van. Not quite as good as the ride along or doing the class but atleast we'll get on the track!

anyone have an experience with this to share?

any tips?

:sunny:

My DD and I got this for DH for Christmas during our last trip the end of October. He loved it. We surprised him with it on our way down to WDW and he was so surprised.

Take your camera - I tried to video tape, but it is difficult - DH's top speed was 123.25 mph.

Any questions just ask.

I'd love to read some reviews about this experience too. I know my dh would enjoy doing this.

My plan was to do this for my 40th trip at Christmas...but alas...I've spent too much money on other things so I need to put off the Richard Petty thing for a year or so.....

Your DH will have a great time....

I AM WICKED JEALOUS OF HIM!!

I want to do this very bad, i am a very big nascar fan and would love to do a few laps...

let me know how it goes!

DH did this and loved it. he did the one that cost about $300 and was for the morning. You and your children will get to sit in the bleachers and watch. You can also be in the room during the training video. The CM's there are great.

I'm not sure what you meant when you said you would get a track tour in a van. When we were there, only those who were participating did that.

Any questions, just ask.

The woman I spoke with said family members will be taken on a one lap "tour" of the track in a van. I think I read some posters a while back who said the same thing.

I will write a review when we return.

We did this year last for my FIL. He LOVED it!

They did take the kids for a tour of the track in a van - without adults.

I was planning on letting my DH do the Ride-Along as his Christmas present (that's all I can afford right now with Christmas and our trip in February). Do we have to pay admission to the Wide World of Sports (there will be DH, me, DD (6), DS (3) and my mom? For those of you who have done the ride-along, do I have to make reseverations?

Thanks!

Here's what I was told when I made my DH's reservation for the rookie ex. No ressie is needed for ride along but if you want to do it for an xmas gift they do have gift certificates which you would have to pay for now then redeem at WDW.

Also, the race track is not the same as Wide World of Sports, I was told it was fine to bring myself and kids to watch, no additional fees. She said there is a covered grandstand area to view the track from.

Good luck.

Yes, this track is on the way to MK, near the AAA Auto Care Center. I did the Ride Along a few years ago and it was AWESOME!!.

There is a covered grandstand near the "pit area" where the families can sit, which is a great place to take some close up photos, etc.

I just walked up and virtually walked right in. You don't even have to wear a fire suit for the ride along, just a helmet.

I gave this to dh(Rob) for Christmas last year. He LOVED it. I waited for about an hour before leaving for the track, I knew he would be in a 'lesson' before he was driving. There is a shuttle at the ttc that takes you right over. I'm glad I did this, the kids liked seeing Daddy race but waiting for the other drivers was boring for them, the washroom with the racing theme and snacks I brought didn't hold interest long enough. I have some great pictures of him with the 'pit crew' talking to him through the car window. You can buy a professional looking picture while you are there.
The driving experience is expensive but so worth it, once (or twice) in a lifetime :teeth:
Have fun!

Where can I get more info online for this? I know DH would love this. He wanted to do this on our last trip, but it was raining on the day we went. And silly me didn't save any of the info. This would make his Christmas complete and get him as excited about heading back to the World as the rest of us are. TIA

1800bepetty.com is the website and the phone number. My fiance did this a couple of years ago and loved it!!!

For insurance reasons the max speed was around 127 mph for the Rookie experience, the ride along (which I did, too chicken to actually drive it myself!) was a little bit faster, since it is a professional driver.

I did spend the morning at the track, sat in on the "classroom" training, then went out the "pit area" to watch the drivers. I took lots of photos and video...both of which are very hard to do since you are seated/standing at ground level and the best place for watching "racing" is up high.

Have a great time!!!

Don't forget to use an orlando magic card. You save 10%. Every litttle bit helps. Mine is also getting this for Christmas. I can't wait. Gina

Thanks. I'd forgotten all about the Orlando Magic card. And every little bit definitely helps, especially this time of year. Geez, now I'm getting all excited for him...I hope I can keep it a secret!
