My 8 year old daughter will enjoy my first manicure and pedicure at GF while we are at disney - thought it was the perfect place for this kind of first. Has anyone tried this - if so any tips on a way to make it fun for her. Since it is not a spa day I doubt they will give her robe or anything. I am bringing my camera for pics- and will look for anything that might work well on the scrapbook page (bus card etc). But would love advice from anyone who has taken their child. They did mention we can use the resort anytime in the day or evening - not sure about the hot tub if it is a child friendly area or not. My husband could really use something like that. THought maybe he could have a hot tub while I took the kids for an afternoon tea.

Thanks for any tips you can offer.

You can use the facilities at the spa, not the resort all day. Just want to clarify that. Only registered guests of the GF can use the GF pools and hot tubs.

Let me tell a bit about the spa.

It's nice, not world-class.

You and your granddaughter will be escorted to the ladies lounge. You are right, they will not offer her a robe for a manicure/pedicure.

Your granddaughter is client, and as such would be the one entitled to use the jacuzzi, sauna and steamroom off the ladies lounge area--although I don't think that anyone under 16 is allowed to use them, so it's probably a moot point. Generally clients can also make use of the excercise facilities on the day of treatment, again, she is too young.

You might want to prepare her...there is a glass door between the lounge area and the room contaiing the jacuzzi/steam room/sauna, and I've seen quite a few more than one ladies using those facilities...without a bathing suit. Your granddaughter will be able to see this. Also the changing area is just around the corner, and again, some women are not as modest as others.

You'll sit in the lounge and the therapist will come in for your granddaughter. If the nail room is full there might not be a place for you to sit with her...you might need to wait in the lounge or stand in the nail room while she gets her treatment.

It should take about an hour for both treatments, and if they put polish on you'll want to sit in the lounge for about 20 minutes waiting for it to dry before you leave.

You might want to think about another option...TC who used to be the lead nail tech at the GF Spa left about two years ago to start her own mobile manicure/pedicure service--she'll come right to your home or hotel room.

She charges $35 for a manicure and pedicure--that's TOTAL, not each. Quite a few people on these boards have used her and have loved the experience. It's the exact same treatment you'd get at the GF Spa, for less than half the cost! You can contact her at fingersntoes1@cs.com or call her, 352.255.2915.

Thanks - the man I was talking to said - you and your party - but I would have to clarify that - I am assuming they have a hot tub in the spa since he mentioned it. No biggie if it is not available to us.

As for the person who left and can come to our room - I think part of the fun of the "first" is that she is going to a spa - we have spa days at home but it is not the same. Will they not use the foot soak for the "my first" - or is is really just doing her toe nails? The my first is about 24 bucks for each - around 50 dollars total.

If the spa doesn't do at least a little pampering then maybe it is not worth doing?

Thanks so much for sharing the info - hope you can answer my new questions.

The mens and ladies lounge/dressing rooms each have a room with a jacuzzi, steamroom, and sauna. I've had dozens of treatments at the GF spa, and my husband was never invited to use the facilities unless he was also receiving a treatment that day, so I think there might have been a misunderstanding.

I just called her for you, she will charge $25 for the "my first manicure/pedicure" and do the same treatment that she did at the Grand, including the foot soak (she has a portable foot tub with vibrations and bubbles, just like at the spa.)

Well, it's nicer than the nail palce in the mall run by the Koreans, but it's not Canyon Ranch. With taht treatment they do soak the feet, but TC says only for a few minutes, and generally they try to move those appointments in and out in half an hour.

Well now I am going to have to think about it - If I felt rushed then I would just rather wait and take her to a spa here another time - just thought the disney experience would be a fun one. I'll have to think on it and I will take your friends number just incase.

Thanks so much for helping!
