After posting about our old 1985 pop-up with no a/c, we went out *looking* and ended up buying a 2007 Fleetwood Niagara with a/c, heat, fridge, 3 burner stove, oven, microwave, bathroom, dining slide, stereo and outdoor cookstove. We pick it up on Friday and will use it at then end of the month for a trip to Hershey Park.

So, we decided to go ahead and book the Disney camping trip for next August. :yay: There is just no other way to make an 11 night/10 day trip that affordable for our family of 5.

Very excited to head to the Fort. I grew up camping and our kids love it whenever we go. I think it's going to be a great time! :)

Our first camper was a Niagra - LOVED it!

It served our family very well. You will certainly enjoy camping at the Fort. In addition to saving money, you will indeed have the time of your lives!

So funny, we just upgraded to a Shadow Cruiser from a Rockwood Highwall and the first trip we booked was a 12 day stay at Fort Wilderness for next June/July! Where in Hershey are you staying? We camped at Hershey Highmeadow the first year we had our pop-up but since DH's family is from that area we never did it again because they were offended. We are going on our first camping trip in our new camper this weekend.

Always have to book Disney first - priorities! :)

We are also staying at Hershey Highmeadow. Should be lots of fun. :thumbsup2

Now comes the hard part, waiting until next August.

Congrats on the camper upgrade and on making your Fort reservation! :thumbsup2

This spring we also upgraded from an older pop-up. Ours was a 1987 Coleman with basically just beds and a dinette inside, no a/c, heat, bathroom, kitchen, etc. It is so nice camping now with amenities and more space!

We are currently researching options for our family vacation next summer, and I'm hoping that a Fort trip wins out....

So true!!! I try to plan fun things throughout the year to help make the countdown fun. They'll all get a little something Disney themed at Christmas and in their Easter baskets, for example. :)

Sounds like our old campers were pretty similar. Ours was an 85 Coleman Chesapeake with double bunks on the end and the table/bed. It did have a little sink and stove top though.

It really was a bargain and a great way to get us started camping - but I don't think I will miss it. Especially since 3 different things (including the lift chain!) broke on it yesterday when we opened it to get our stuff out! Glad the dealer just said they are going to scrap it after we trade it in!

OP congrats on the popup. As far as disney have you considered the YES program disney offers to kids? I believe there are still Aug classes open and it would save you $$$$ on park tickets.

Did they tell you where your site will be and about the very active railroad next to the campground? We will never stay there again because of the railroad. It was LOUD!

Yes, Disney was definitely a priority!

I've heard the same thing and that's why we won't stay there either! I need my sleep and had an experience in a Williamsburg campground once that involved a train rolling by all night.....never again! I always check this site before booking anywhere:

Really? When were you there last? That railroad has not existed since the late 70s or maybe 80 or 81 at the latest. I would have loved to ride it, but sadly it was long gone when I took my first trip to the fort around 1985 or so.

Also, as far as I know, you won't find out which site you get till you get there. You can book a certain type of site, which will put you in a general area (maybe, they can always upgrade you to a more expensive site), and you can even request certain sites, loops, features, but you won't be sure till you get there.

I think you will enjoy your visit. Fort Wilderness will spoil you though. You will not want to go anywhere else.

We are talking about Hershey Highmeadow, not Fort Wilderness. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry. I read Disney, camping, and railroad. I scanned through quickly but didn't see the other campground. Oops.

Congrats to the OP on getting the popup (we love ours - it makes going to the Fort easy).

Expect frequent rain showers in August. Plan non-theme park days to relax at the Fort, visit the other resorts, shop at DTD, and sleep in.

Enjoy!

We are on the other side thankfully.

JEALOUS!!! ::yes::

We just upgraded, too, and I cannot WAIT to haul it down to FW! DH just started a new job and we have to wait until his probationary period is up. We're *hoping* for mid-October of next year...
