O.K. I know there's probably been a gazillion of these same questions posted before, but here we go...

* We are staying in a pop up, but got a preferred site for the cable and the convenience. Here are my questions:

1. We will have bikes. Are we making a mistake NOT getting a golf cart?
2. We will be on the dining plan. I also posted about the lack of counter service meals at FW, but did not ask about the snack credits. Are there items at FW to use our snack credits on?
3. What loop would you recommend in the preferred sites? Why?
4. What day time activities are offered that we should not miss?
5. What night time activities are offered that we should not miss?
6. Is the wagon ride worth the $20 it will cost for our family of three?
7. 4 yr. old on the pony ride...how does it work? Do we go with him? Is he on the pony by himself?
8. If we use our bikes to get around, is there a place to put them at comfort stations, pool, marina, etc.? Do we need to lock them up, or it is pretty safe to just leave them?
9. Camping in late April without air conditioning- what should we expect?
10. Will we be able to park our Jeep at our site, or do we have to park it somewhere else?
11. Will we need an extension for our 30amp electrical cord? It's 20 foot long.
12. We have an awning with a screened porch. Will there be any space issues to put it up?

Any links to Fort Wilderness information is a plus...I've checked out allearsnet. Thanks!

Enjoy the planning, and I'll start with the answers:

1. You'll enjoy the bikes for fun and transport around the campground. They may not be much help for getting to the marina, Settlement, or Outpost bus stops, though. I'm assuming that with a 4 year old you'll be taking a stroller and other assorted goodies to the park so a bike won't help you there. And if you come back late enough to have a tired/sleeping kiddo, then a bike REALLY won't help. The internal buses will take you to your loop, but a golf cart would take you from bus to bed.

7. You hold the pony's lead and walk around the path with your kid. Have another adult ready for the pictures.

8. Places to park bikes everywhere! I never lock mine, hasn't been a problem....yet.

10. Right by your pop-up.

12. Tell them your size unit when making ressies (for example--31 footer with slide-out and awning) and they'll usually pick the right spot for you.

More answers:

2. Snack credits - we were able to use our snack credits for an assortment of items at the trading posts. The kids usually got ice cream, and I used a bunch of leftover credits the last day to buy bags of chips, boxes of donuts, bags of Disney themed snacks, etc. for the trip home. Basically it was anything under $4. I had one CM tell me that it it was supposed to only be single serving items under $4, but she said let's try to ring them up anyway, and lo and behold, it worked. The only item that didn't work was a large bag of Disney pretzels and that was because there was a single serving bag available.

11. You probably shouldn't need a 30 amp extension cord, but we always carry one just in case. There have been occassions (not at FW) where it was needed, and I'd have hated to have to leave and go buy one in the middle of setting up.

Have a wonderful time!:wave2:

I may have already posted this but make sure you print the sticky about camping checklist. I have some things to add to that too, but for now that is a great list for what you need.

Woah! You asked a lot of questions there!

Here you go:

1. We will have bikes. Are we making a mistake NOT getting a golf cart?

No- a golf cart is a luxury- not at all required. I would suggest that you rent one for 24 hours-it is a great way to tour the campground, and see what other campers are up to.

2. We will be on the dining plan. I also posted about the lack of counter service meals at FW, but did not ask about the snack credits. Are there items at FW to use our snack credits on?

Can't help you with this one.

3. What loop would you recommend in the preferred sites? Why?

This answer relates to your #11- On some of the preferred loops, the electric service has been relocated to a post at the far back of the sand pad on the site. Originally, all of the utilities were located in a fake tree stump located mid-way on each site. We like to park our pop-up on the concrete pad so the patio area is on the concrete, not sand. If you do that, on the updated preferred loop, it is likely that you will need an extension cord- This is the case on the 200, 300 and 1400 loops (and maybe more). They sell the extension cords in the Trading Post for (I think that they are around $20). As far as location, you might like the 1400 loop because you are very close to the main pool, campfire area, and Meadows Trading Post.

4. What day time activities are offered that we should not miss?

Make sure that you visit the horse barn and the pony rides. There are also daily activities at the Meadows pool, but they are not really anything that you should "not miss."

5. What night time activities are offered that we should not miss?

Definitely make it to the campfire sing-a-long, and watch a movie at least one night. Watch the Electric Water Pageant from the beach at least one night (every night at 9:45). Watch the MK fireworks from the beach at least once too. Also, if you can afford it-try the Hoop De Doo at least once

6. Is the wagon ride worth the $20 it will cost for our family of three?

Yes- you should try it at least once

7. 4 yr. old on the pony ride...how does it work? Do we go with him? Is he on the pony by himself?

You lead the pony around a short designated path. Perfect for a four year old!

8. If we use our bikes to get around, is there a place to put them at comfort stations, pool, marina, etc.? Do we need to lock them up, or it is pretty safe to just leave them?

Bikes are great. You don't need to lock them, but we always do-just to make sure no one borrows one.

9. Camping in late April without air conditioning- what should we expect?

Bring a fan. It will be warm at night-but you should be OK with a fan.

10. Will we be able to park our Jeep at our site, or do we have to park it somewhere else?

You can park your trailer and one vehicle at your site.

11. Will we need an extension for our 30amp electrical cord? It's 20 foot long.

Maybe- if you are in a loop with updated electric service. The cords are for sale in the Trading Post.

12. We have an awning with a screened porch. Will there be any space issues to put it up?

No- We camp with a pop up, and space has never been an issue for this size rig.

Have a great time!
