Just booked for sept 2012! Free dining plan question

I just booked my vacation for sept 2012. Obviously Disney has not offered free dining plan for this date yet. I did not book a dp. If they add free dining at later date can I get it? How?

... subject to availability. That's true, by the way, for any discounts or other package deals -- if you ever see a better deal that what you've already booked, call and see if you can switch to the better deal.

You can if your package qualifies. If you've booked a package with a room discount - like AAA - you'll have to give up that discount in order to add "free" dining. Right now they're making you also purchase a $100 Memory Book in order to qualify.

You'll have to do the math to see which is better for you - a room discount or "free" dining. When we started going with just the two of us (DD is in college) the room discount became a better deal. With 3-5 in a room, especially a value or moderate resort, the dining generally becomes the better deal.

You DO NOT have to rebook, you just call and have the CM add the free dining code to the existing reservation. Even if the resort you are booked out sells out of free dining rooms before you call to add the code, you can just ask for availability at another resort and they will move you to that resort and add the free dining code. You will be credited the difference and your resort reservation number will stay the same. They will email you a new confirmation with the changes that have been made.

Generally, if you are staying at a value resort or a moderate the free dining discount is going to come out ahead in savings as opposed to a room discount. If you are staying at a deluxe resort, and their is a 40% off room code available, then you will have to run the numbers to see which is a better discount. If you have 4 or more people on the reservation that are classified as adults, the free dining will probable still come out slightly better than a room rate.

So did I! When and where are you staying? We're going the 16-22 at POFQ. I also did not put on the dining plan. I'm hoping they come out with free dining. If they do I will have them add it onto my ressie.

I also have booked for 2012 and I am waiting for free dining to be announced also. Does anyone have a guesstimate of when the deal will be announced for the August/September time frame? If I recall last time I went it was around April 1st. Also does anyone know what the free date range was in 2011?

Did you book a package (room + tickets) or just the room?

If you booked a package you will be able to modify the reservation and add free dining. If your current package includes a room discount you will have to decide which is a better deal for you - free dining or room discount because free dining requires the room to be at rack rate.

If you currently have a room only reservation you will have to cancel the room only and re-book as a package if free dining is announced.

Packages and room only reservations have different requirements for deposit, final payment due date, and change penalties.
