I'm so excited:dance3: (but shhhh its a secret:ssst:) Just booked flights for 3rd to 5th December. We're not going to tell the kids until we leave for the airport.

Just have to decide on the hotel now. Got these quotes:

Dreamcastle £240 (would need to buy APs for myself and OH - the girls APs are still valid, but would get shareholder discount)

DLH £824 :scared1:

HNY £629

Sequoia Lodge £464

My head is telling me to go with Dreamcastle we would then still have APs for any trips next year:rolleyes1, but my heart wants to be onsite. My OH is not an early riser so we would struggle to do EMH anyway.

Any advice? Where would you choose with these quotes?

I would definitely go with the Dream Castle - but I just made a similar decision - the savings was worth it to me!:)

Of course I haven't stayed at the hotels in question so really can't say if they'd be worth it:rolleyes1 but I do really enjoy knowing I am getting good value for the money spent. Then again it is likely one day I'll spring for the DLH for the experience and location!:wizard:

Just thought about it a bit more...

In normal circumstances, I might be inclined to go for Sequoia Lodge as it doesn't cost *that* much more. However, with the big refurb going on, I'm not sure if it would be as nice as it usually is, so I'm sticking by my choice of the Dream Castle. :thumbsup2

The Sequioa does seem to get good reviews at christmas time, but then the dreamcastle is lovely and OH really liked it. I'm rubbish at decisions:rolleyes1

My other dilema is clothes. How cold is cold. We live in Scotland so are used to low temperatures:rotfl:. My oldest DD is going to DLRP with the school in january so I'm going to use that as an excuse when we buy her a coat etc. Will we really need to go the whole hog with thermal undies and snowsuits or would lots of layers with winter coats hat scarf etc be sufficient:confused3

SL is lovely but I don't think I'll be booking to stay there for a while- not when such a big overhaul is happening.

It depends. For early December, the latter should be fine.

We went at the same time of year a few years ago and yes it was cold, in the day we were fine with layers and hats etc. Once the evening came it was bitterly cold though.

We're going just a few weeks before you this year and plan on doing the layers thing again, we've bought our little ones thick tights to go under jeans and socks (yes they're boys so we got blue tights not pink lol) and will have cosey toes for them to snuggle under in the evenings.

I spoke to DLP the other day about the SL refurbishment as I will be there in December too. I was told guests will not be effected by the refurbishment as they are working on the lodges first. Each one will be closed and then refurbished. Work on the main building will not start untill 2011.

The bar, resturants and swimming pool will be open as normal.

Can I ask what are they doing with the SL????

We have stayed at SL in December and did love it, felt the right hotel during winter/xmas

Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound too bad then, for the time being anyway.

I believe they are completely refurbishing all the rooms (with a vague Bambi theme). Not too sure what they're doing with the public areas.

Can I ask where did you get the dream castle price? Direct from the hotel?

Also do not know if it will help but Tesco are allowing you to exchange club card vouchers for tickets to the park

The price for Dreamcastle was from expedia. Their price was even lower than booking with the hotel direct.

I wish I had a clubcard now:sad1: (I'm a morrisons girl;))

Yaaaaaayyyyy!!! Same time as us - come to the New York!! I would be tempted to go for the SL and be on-site! :goodvibes

I've bought thermals for myself and furry boots as I hate being cold, Isabelle & I also have ski jackets as they were in the sale! I am sooooooooooooooooooo excited - only 7 and a half weeks to go!!!!! :santa:  :santa:

I've been buying wintry clothing for the girls (they just don't know why;) Anna (6) is not too bad she'll wear anything, however Rebecca (14) and is at the age where image is everything and apparently being warm is not in :lmao:. I struggle to get her to wear a coat here when its freezing. Trying to get her down to TKMaxx to look at skiwear is gonna be fun!

I got some warm knitted leggings in H&M which will be really cosy with thick tights. Myself and OH have ski jackets and Anna has a coat filled with downfeathers so we won't freeze:rotfl:

when we went in december a few times, we learnt to do "layers" rather than just say a thick jumper, make all the difference. Think I had leggings on under my trousers, and t shirt under my top etc.

I'm definately thinking layers are the way to go (and lots of hot chocolate and Mickey Brioche:goodvibes)

Agree, layers are the way to go, although be aware that it can go either way. We went one year, 2004 I think it was, and had some kind of weird freezing fog. I've never felt cold like it! One year though, we were out without coats........

Mmm mulled wine yes please :goodvibes
Our Christmas excitement is now just over 3 weeks away I can't believe it!
All you christmas folks - I saw a good range of thermals in Primark last week only a few pounds each, going thermal shopping next Thursday!
