We just booked an August trip, because my sis and her son can only travel at this time. This will be their first time to WDW, but my family has gone 9 times, but never in August,I'm scared any advice( bugs, weather, and crowds). We are DVC and they will be our guests this trip, I just hope they will enjoy it,because I don't really know what to expect during this time of the month(8-1/8-7-12) we just came back (12-4/12-10) best trip yet, great weather and crowds. We will be staying at BLT again because my DGD loves the castle! Thanks for any advice.

We have our 2nd Aug. trip coming up next year. The first time we went in 2010 I was dreading it. I feared and expected the worst but left knowing I would definitely go again in August. Is it hot? YES--but being from Texas I imagine you've experienced hot. Not sure what the humidity is like there so that might be what gets you. You can leave the room at 8 in the morning and feel like you've hit a wall the second you step outside. The humidity is worse than the heat.

The main thing I didn't like was the rain. Every day it rained for at least a little while so make sure you have ponchos. It was annoying just to have to put them on and off and ball them up wet and have to dry them out when you got back to your room.

We went the 19th to the 25th so southern schools were back in session which made the crowd levels wonderful. I think it was the least crowded out of all the times we've been but it was later in the month than you're going.

I find that heat and humidity tend to breed crankiness so slowing down always helps keep the magic alive. Take a mid day break by the pool or relax in your room. Bring plenty to drink. Remember you can get free water at any counter service restaurant. Misting fans are also a great way to get a little relief when walking the parks.

Just remember...when it's so humid that you can't draw a deep breath or your're soaked from the rain...a hot, humid and wet day in Disney is better by far than any day at home.:)

Trasor, thanks for the advice, we've been in June, July and just came back from our best trip yet in Dec. I guess Im really worried mainly about the bugs and crowds and you just reminded me about the dreaded daily rain!

I'm a teacher and we always go in August. Yes, it is hot, but since that starts hurricane season (don't panic!!), often there is a storm of some sort swirling off the coast that provides cooler breezes. And yes, some rain, so ponchos are key. But as a pp said the crowd level beats mid summer and often you still have frequent shows and more hours to enjoy them.
Unless there is a full-blown hurricane, you will be ok!!!! Enjoy the planning!:goodvibes

We go in August every year (the last week). Bring your ponchos and have fun. Its very hot, but get up and go early, stay at the parks for a few hours, go back to the resort, then head back out later around dinner time.

We often go in August - have never had any problems with bugs at all. Disney does a good job of keeping the place bug free it seems. I am one of those people who is a natural bug magnet. I can use spray all over my exposed body parts & the mosquitos will literally go up my shorts to bite my butt!! I'm telling ya I must be like bug crack or something.:rotfl: ANYWAY, it will be HOT but I wouldn't think it would be any worse than TX in August. I find FL very similar to MD weather in the summer. It will likely storm for awhile every afternoon but it generally passes & doesn't linger all day unless there's a Tropical Storm or Hurricane off the coast so pack your ponchos. And your sunscreen. If you've been in July before it should be very similar to that trip. (I think that technically July is the hottest month...) We usually go around mid-August (when Dream season starts). By then some schools are back in session so some of the crowds lessen BUT the last couple of times we went then there was that dumb free dining going on so there a lot of people there for that & ADR's were hard to get if you didn't make them early.

We stayed in August 2011 at BLT and had a blast. Of course we are the type to get to the parks at dinner time so crowds/heat are not an issue with us. Staying in a 1 or 2 Bedroom villa seems to encourage a take it easy approach while a hotel room seems to encourage getting out the door as soon as you are ready. (commando, park drop, crowds, smells and sweaty people!)

We took advantage of Evening EMH and usually got back to the resort at 12:00 a.m. or later, waking up around 10 and having 10:45 breakfast at Kona, Wave, Grand Floridian Cafe...hitting the room and doing resort activities, napping, reading, swimming, whatever until dinner time. The parks may be hot and crowded at 5:00 p.m. while we are eating dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern but by the time we are ready to start hitting rides at 6:15 or 6:30, we only have to deal with the heat/crowds for maybe an hour or two before things calm down.
