Just booked, fear setting in

We are going to Disney World for the first time on March 28-April 3. Now that its booked, I am really getting nervous. I have never planned a vacation of this magnitude. I have been reading on this board for the past several months and I was so excited until I booked. Now I feel this enormous pressure to give my family the perfect vacation and I am scared to death I will fail and they wont have fun! I am sure I am being irrational, but I just needed to vent.

Hi Lora,

Takea deep breath...it can certainly be intimidating reading all this information. But just remember, you are well informed.

All of us here on the DIS had a first time we went to WDW and we were all a little uncertain about how it would turn out.

I think you'll have the time of your life! Everyone will have fun and you will have some great memories to share as a family.

Lora, just relax! I don't see how anyone can not have a great time at the world! So, don't worry. And, please, I speak from experience, don't put too much pressure on yourself to plan the "perfect" vacation. Don't try to over-schedule or plan every moment. As long as you have an idea of what parks you want to visit on what days, and plan some ADRs, just play it by ear. Once you get there, things end up changing anyway. I always joke with my family that they didn't follow my itinerary! We went back to MGM on a day I scheduled for Epcot. We hung out at the resort the first night, instead of going back to MK for the parade! And you know what, we had a great time! I'm sure you will too!

I agree with the posters above...make a list of things that you don't want to miss, make ADRs at the restaurants you want to try, have a plan but don't over do it. We have come to the conculsion that you can't do everything in 1 trip...we just look at it as an excuse to go back!! Make sure you do have some down time scheduled. When we went in Jan we didn't take any time to rest in our 10 day trip. DH says that's the only thing he would have changed about the trip...I took that as a compliment since I was the one that did all of the planning!!

Remember to think of Christmas. Do your kids have fun with their new toys or want to play all day with a big empty box. (Maybe I should sell big empty boxes for next Christmas)



You could plan the perfect trip but that doesn't mean this is what your kids want to do. Don't worry if everything isn't going according to schedule. Is everyone having fun and enjoying themselves. You want to have an outline of what you want to do and dont be afraid to change it.

We had planned to do AK for the morning, back to resort after lunch and then MK later in the day. Problem was Night of Joy closed MK at 6 and we didn't want to pay extra to enter. We went to MGM, rode a few rides and did some shopping right before parade. DW was getting something embroied so I was watching DDs and trying to get a spot for the parade. We were late so tried to find safe place for girls to sit on a wall without them standing up and falling. A CM came by and asked if wanted to have a good seat for the parade. Sure I said. So we were selected as grand marshal for parade. We didn't get to ride in it, but had a good view of the parade, lots of pictures and had all the characters in the parade wave spefically at our girls and some of the characters walking, shook our DDs hand. They enjoyed it. Got a nice family certificate (My wife surrounded the certificate with pictures from the parade and framed it) and a FP to fantasmic. Even though we were eating at H&V we hadn't signed up for the fantasmic package, I was so naive.

Sometimes the magic comes when you do something unexpected.

We just booked our vacation a week ago and the panic for me still continues, lol. I KNOW we'll have fun but it's just the thought of everything. I'm scared we're not going to know what to do because there's so many things to do and so many things to see. I have a fear of getting lost, lol. It's just overwhelming.

I agree with everyone else I was in your position last month! It all got to be overwelming and there were times I let it get the best of me. At times I am sure my family thought I was a lunatic. All that reading helps but sometimes you have too much on your mind (we should be here at this time, there at that time, waiting less time, Fast Passing more, etc). Mostly the reading paid off. We found more little magical things (my DH was most impressed with pulling the rope at MGM by the Indiana Jones show....after that he kept asking me for more little bits of info/magic). Your kids are a great age and you'll really be able to go with the flow. Get to the parks early, take breaks and most of all ENJOY YOURSELF!!! I completely understand where you are with the jitters. I just booked our first on-site Disney trip. This is double the budget of any trip we have ever taken. We usually save for years to do the cheap hotel, McD's, no souvenier trip but this one is so different. While the budget is not unlimited we have more than usual and that is adding a whole new dimension to my planning and my nerves. Last night hubby finally made me get off the computer and watch a silly movie (Wedding Crashers) with him just so I would stop worrying about this trip for a few hours.

I know that no matter what I (and you) will have a great time and so will our families.

I just went thru this. My fear was being late to an ADR since I had no idea how long it took to get from place to place.

My advice is to realize that your plan will fall apart at sometime. But it is okay because you will have enough knowledge to pick up the peices and make a new plan. Our plan fell apart on our first morning. The evening before went great but our first morning was not on our plan at all. The weather was to reach 80 on Feb. 2 so off to BB we went. Everyone loved it! We then reorganized the rest of the week and it turned out great.

It's vacation! Slow down and smell the flowers (or the cookies on Main St.)

TO CUTE! I think we all have done that at one point in time, but you will have a great time. For me I think I get so excited planning, I almost forget I get to go do this at some point. Just relax, and have a great time!
