We have stayed all over Disney property and off property, but never at Fort Wilderness. With the new cabins, we thought we would give it a try. We have been on property for Hooptie Doo, but never stayed. I would love to know
How was transportation
would we be better off with renting a car.
Anything else you think might be helpful.
Only there for 4 days so won't use pool or laundry.
Thanks so much!

Love Ft. Wilderness. I strongly recommend a golf cart if you can swing it, makes the FW experience more efficient/convenient, in my humble opinion.

If you do end up using the pool, one difference with FW is that they don't have pool towels, so bring some from the room.

We like renting bikes and also renting fishing equipment for the pond between the Meadow Trading Post and the Bike Barn.

FW tends to get more talk on the camping board (https://www.disboards.com/forums/camping-at-disney-world.24/), may want to post over there too.

FW is a special place, enjoy!

I have already reserved my dates for December just in case .

What are the dates ( don’t need the specific date just a general first week in December ) … for your trip?
I think you can book just one day for a golf cart to have more fun exploring .
Be sure to visit the Horse Barn to see the horses receiving excellent care from devoted cast members. And the vintage gold Calliope Float that still works !
It is showcased in glass to preserve this beautiful piece of Disney History .
Look for the button to push to start the music.
Also the nightly ChipnDale Roundup to toast marshmallows around the campfire.
And dance the Hokeypokey with ChipnDale too . Or just watch everybody else having fun .It’s fun for all
Almost forgot the outdoor movie nightly too

Following along since we are in the same boat as you. We are staying for a week. I can echo GADisneyDad14's comment about renting a golf cart. This is something I have seen recommended by many. I booked ours a few days ago.

I watched a you tube video about the new cabins at Fort Wilderness recently. It looks awesome! I haven't stayed there, so I envy you the opportunity. I don't have any personal tips, but the people that did the video had a BBQ on the grill. They used a package with BBQ briquettes that looked so easy to use. All you had to do was place the bag under the grill and light it. We use a propane grill at home, so I hadn't seen anything like this before. It is certainly a product that I would use if staying at the cabins in FW.

Another thing that they did was bring flamingos to decorate their site. I don't know if you want to decorate somehow, but it looked like fun. Just something to think about.

Rent a golf cart. We loved it. Also bring something to decorate your golf cart so you can easily tell which one is yours. We used Christmas lights and it was a lot of fun especially in the dark.

Get the list of activities at the Fort.

There are unofficial scavenger hunts on the Facebook pages.

Consider bringing bug spray.

We bring our bikes but the internal bus service is good. And we like that our truck is on our campsite; it's way easy to drive to the parks, disney springs and off property.

That being said, if I were staying at a cabin with no car I'd definitely rent a golf cart. Fort Wilderness is HUGE! We rode our bikes through every loop and it was around 10 miles!! You don't want to take the internal bus to the pool or gift stores and there's not really any vehicle parking. There is lots of golf cart parking. Everywhere!

My favorite FW activity is taking the resort launch to the CR and enjoying a monorail crawl. OMG, so much fun! If you time it right, you might end up at the GF during the fireworks.

I love FW!

We won't have a whole lot of time to explore since we are doing a quick trip in mid May. Def doing Hoopty Doo, we love it. We will add the horse barn to our day we can explore! Thanks!!

Golf cart! Golf cart! We LOVED our stay at the Fort in the cabins back in May (they were the old cabins then) and I'll never forget the fun we had 'loopin' as a family with our refillable coffee mugs. Great memories. You're going to love it :)
