The bus stop is on the BWI side and thus you must walk some distance to get to it no matter where your BWV room is. BWV has only one set of elevators, not far from the lobby, and the rooms down both hallways generally flow away from the elevator until you get far away to the end of the hallways, and thus most rooms take some effort just to get to the elevator. The Village Green studios mentioned above are all fairly near the elevator and in a great location for being near the boardwalk, store, lobby, and boat dock (as noted, you overlook the large grassy area outside the lobby and between the BWI and BWV, which leads to the boardwalk). If you request there, also request high floor; what you want avoid is second floor rooms there (first floor is stores) which have views blocked by arches near the building.
Note if one does not have a studio, one cannot get Village Green area since the pool/garden view rooms there are all studios. Be aware that guest traffic is steady outside of room in Village Green area and you can get some noise. There is usually a nightly Disney movie shown outside on the Village Green area (another possible noise issue, which is generally muffled if balcony doors are closed). If real and constant quiet is an absolute necessity, then you may want to request the quiet pool area but distance to lobby, boat dock and pool can be quite long. Luna Park area would be a possibility that has good location but some noise from pool area.
Do not request specific room numbers. The more general your location request, the greater the chance of it being met and specifc room requests are the least likely to be met, and if they cannot meet a location request they just put you in any available room which can be far from whatever you requested. Thus requesting areas, such as Village Green or Luna Park, are better and have a decent chance of being met.
There is a good kiddie pool area for little ones. The boardwalk has evening and nightly entertainment (little humor and slapstick shows) althought not much for a 1 year old, but you can easily take her along in a stroller (note I am assuming you will have a stroller; if you do not intend on bringing one and instead intend on using Disney's strollers at the park, you should instead consider renting one from someone like Magic Strollers, magicstrollers.com, which delivers to the resort and then picks it up from the resort the day you leave.
Boardwalk's restaurants are good. Trattoria al Forno is good Italian, Big River Grill is American faire with local beers and is good (and takes no reservations). ESPN club is good short order with lots of screens for sports watching (it also takes no reservations). Flying Fish is a good but very expensive seafood restaurant. Cape May Cafe, which is one of the best buffets at WDW, with a seafood buffet (and other food for those who prefer other) at dinner, is right across the bay via boat at Beach Club. It also has a character breakfast.
