I just booked a cruise for 2017 for DH and me, even before our Dream cruise in 72 days! But since I used a TA for the first one, I have two questions:
1) how soon do I need to get insurance? I want to get it, but I want to wait as long as I can.
2) I plan to try to cancel and rebook on my Dream cruise IF it saves me any money (if the cruise goes up more than $500 in the next 72 days, it won't). That way I would get the OBC for booking onboard. If it goes up and I won't save money I won't do it, but then can I transfer it to a TA at that point, or will it be too late?

1) You can purchase insurance at any time. Different companies have different requirements about when you can purchase. Some you must purchase within a specified time frame after initial payment for trip, others you can purchase all the way up to final payment date. There are a number of travel insurance comparison sites (google that) where you can put in the parameters/costs of what you want covered, and they will show you a variety of policies from different companies for comparison. One thing, if you have a pre-existing condition that you want covered, most insurance companies require purchase within 14-21 days to get the waiver for coverage.
2) You have to transfer your individually done reservation to a TA within 30 days of making the booking.

I always wait to after the paid in full date. We don't have pre-existing conditions. If you buy insurance on something that's refundable... what are you insuring? You don't have to buy through DCL. You can buy insurance right up until the day you sail if you want. If I'm booked with an OBB I wait until I lose more than the deposit. I have never felt I needed to spend 100.00 to insure a 400.00 dollar deposit. I would rather just eat the deposit than go through filling out an insurance claim.
