just booked AKL for 1st time

What should I know? I'm really excited we have always stayed in a Mod. or Value resort. This is going to be a real treat!

We leave in just 23 days

you'll love it. We had a pool view room in July, absolutely gorgeous and you'll love having the balcony. Lots of places to view the animals even if you don't have a Savannah view room. The pool is great, our kids loved the water slide. Lots of things to see at the resort.

We've always stayed on the Zebra trail. I think it has the best animals and the elevator that goes to the first floor is the nearest to the pool and Mara's. You won't have to worry about traversing the lobby with a breakfast tray, lunch tray, etc. or in a wet bathing suite.

You didn't say which room type you reserved but I would suggest requesting a pool view; you might be upgraded to Savannah view. Also, if you reserved a standard view, request a bunk bed room on the Zebra trail. There are no standard view rooms with bunk beds on the Zebra trail. There are very few bunk bed rooms with a Savannah view so you probably wouldn't get upgraded to the Savannah view if its a busy time of year.

This is our favorite resort and was voted #1 family resort in America by The Travel Channel. You will love it! It will be hard to stay in a value or moderate after you stay at AKL.

I also just booked AKL for the first time Jan 28-Feb 5. I've only been inside AKL once. I loved it.

I had dinner at Boma on my arrival night in mid Dec. and had to have emergency surgery the next day - nothing to do with eating at BOMA! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/1097.gif' border=0></a>I was staying at POR and didn't get to do much the rest of my trip but recuperate so this is my make up trip.

I'm very confused

I did book a standard view with the Ap rate. What should I request? I would love to get an upgrade but I'm not counting on it.

too much about my views but at the AKL, you must have a savannah view. The resort is great but waking up and looking out over exotic animals (so close you can hear them chewing!) is really the icing on the cake!!!!!

You will love AKL!! Be sure to take some time to just tour the resort. There is so much to do there. We loved going out and looking at the animals at night. The breakfast buffet at Boma is just the best too. We can't wait to go back! Have a great trip.

You'll love AKL. We got an upgrade from a standard view room to a Savannah view just by asking politely at check in. It was awesome.

If you pay for a Savannah view, ask to **not** be on the Sunset Savannah. There are no zebras on this side of the hotel and the animals are very shy. One of the animal keepers last May told me to always ask for one of the other Savannahs.

Make sure you plan time to hang out at the hotel. There's enough stuff to do there for a vacation by itself. They'll give you a schedule when you check in....cookie decorating, storytelling, keeper encounters, art tour, pelican feeding, night time viewing with night vision binoculars, hidden mickey hunt, pool games, etc....and of course the animals. If you love animals, this is def the place to stay.

You should say that you are looking forward to your first stay at AKL. State that you know there are no guarantees, but you would really like to have a pleasant view or would like to have easy access to view the animals. Just be as polite as possible. Go to www.wdwig.com to get further information and sugestions on what to say in your request. But I think it is best to be polite and that you would really appreciate any consideration that could be given. Since you are going after MLK's birthday you might have a good chance at getting your request.

Have a great time at AKL mrszrw. DW and I also will be AKL newbies in april . We're celebrating a combined 30th anniversary, DW's ** b'day, and my DM's first visit to WDW . We booked thru AAA, including our room prefrences. Should we call WDW CRO to reinforce them ( 4th floor savannah view Uzima) ?
