I've just booked a 3 night cruise for 21st August 2008 :woohoo: I've not told DH as he says he likes surprises in Florida - so this will be one big surprise. I am really excited but a bit nervous as I suffer from motion sickness but I've been reading the cruise board and our American cousins swear by something called Bonnie so I'll try and get some this summer.

Wow that is fantastic news!! I wouldnt worry about sea sickness, I get really sea sick on the ferry to France but when I went on a cruise I didnt have any problems.

Where will you be staying the rest of your holiday? Are you going to tell Dh before you go? :goodvibes

Brilliant news Jakki, I knew you would not be able to resist:)

Happy Planning.

We've got a villa in Sunset Lakes for 3 weeks before - so we'll probably bank our DVC points for 2008 to use in 2009.

I think I won't tell DH untill I ask him to drive to the Port pirate:

You realise it's your fault I booked :rotfl:

 Congratulations

We did one in December and I was dreading it, I hate boats full stop but I came off after our 4 nights very sad that it was over, I loved it.

I'm sure you'll be fine and I'm sure you'll love it too :goodvibes

You will have a GREAT time :)

The only downside will be them prying your hands off of the railings after the 3 days - you just wont want to leave the ship ;)

You should be fine Tink, I'm the same in getting motion sickness, but have been virtually fine all the time on our 2 cruises.

Did realise the ship movement once, whilst in the toilet (no puns req'd!) but other than that, never really noticed it and certainly never felt ill.

You'll be fine I am sure, and without any tablets. On that point, a number of years ago I took some sickness tablets to enable me to ride some coasters and they made me feel worse than the motion sickness!!

I did one in Dec too! I was really worried as im not keen on boats but i LOVED it!! I didnt feel sick at all! The only downside was getting off!!

Thanks everyone - it's good to hear that no one spent the entire cruise with their head over the side

pop over to the cruise section of the DIS, they are very friendnly there. You will get tons of info and best of all look on the cruise meet thread you may find people who have also booked that cruise. We did this and met wonderful people who we nattered with on line about a yr before we cruised. We shared a big table and had a real blast !
I wrote a trip report with lots of photos, so that might help to read some of them. Its under trip report section of the cruise section. Mines called Beauty and the Beast ( and Lindy loo too ! ) I will try and bump to the top for you.
I guess its an Englist look as a new cruiser, so sure you will get tips.

Warning, its addictive we cruise for a week this Oct !

Any questions fire away:)

The motion sickness tablet you've seen mentioned is called Bonine, which is a brand name for the drug meclizine - another brand of the same stuff is Dramamine II (non-drowsy Dramamine). Not sure if you can buy it over here but you probably can, I expect any pharmacist will order it for you if they don't have it in stock. We stock up for DH whenever we're in the States, it's generally on the shelves at places like Wal-Mart or Eckerd.

If you want to wait until you see how you feel once you're on the ship, they usually have a box of one-dose packets of meclizine outside the Medical Centre for anyone to help themselves to at any time.

My DH suffers from motion sickness and was concerned about cruising. But he found that one dose of meclizine each day worked perfectly for him.

I'm sure you will have a wonderful cruise! :)

There's only one snag about a Disney cruise - you will want to book a longer one. Check out the prices on board as you'll get a discount and sometimes shipboard credit.

I did NOT want to cruise.

Then I did, and since then we've been back several times (all with Disney) and last year we were one of the very few British families on the 10 day Sothern Caribbean Disney cruise.

We are booked to go on next year's 15 day east bound Panama Canal repo cruise - see what I mean about re-booking

Get saving !!

I have cruised a few times and work with people who worked at P&O, Princess, RCI, and NCL lines, here are a few remedies that work should you ever feel a bit queasy:

lemonade with a spoonful of sugar
flat lemonade
sea bands or any magnets on a pulse point
anything ginger - ginger beer/ginger biscuits
flat coke
stugeron tablets.

All our clients get recommended this list - we've not lost one to seasickness yet and book 3 or 4 cruises a week.

great news, you are going to have a brilliant time
