I did not think I would be posting this, but I just did an add-on at VGF.

I tried to resist and still think the price is outrageously high, but after my first stay there, I knew I had to add-on some points there.

Oh well, it is only money.

Funny, but the last points I bought direct was at BLT during the Black Friday 2010 sale that was $102pp and included 2 years of points = $82pp net price (assuming a $10pp rental)

Three years later the price was $150 and they included 2013 points only = $135pp (assuming a $15pp rental).

$82 to $135 is a 64% increase in price in only 3 years.

Reservations at VGF are actually fairly easy to get currently for non-home owners. DVC has declared a large amount more inventory of rooms than what they have sold, thus those rooms are open to non-home users at seven months. I actually have two trips coming up to VGF in the next five months, one in January in a one-bedroom lake view and the other in May in a studio lake view.

Anticipate VGF becoming more difficult to book when it sells out. But never impossible, as there will always be VGF owners deciding to use those points to stay elsewhere.

Actually I suspect that after their first couple of trips "home" on the VGF point charts, a good fraction of those new VGF owners will be taking a hard look at using their points at the much lower point-cost DVC options. This, of course, remains to be seen.

Some folks certainly bought VGF solely to stay at VGF. But a lot of the new owners will inevitably realize how many more nights they could get for the same points at a different location, and make that decision. Which is part of the beauty of the system.

We are new VGF owners and only have one VGF visit planned--we want to stay at every DVC property at least once We are doing VGF in feb, then AKV in may and looking at a THV or OKW GV for next Jan. I am pretty sure our minds will be blown in Feb but we still want to check out the other resorts too, as we've only stayed at SSR and BWK. So our points there will be free more often than not, although we do plan on staying at our faves more after we get the rest out of our system.

And it is absolutely true that point values will affect our visits--if we could easily afford to get a VGF GV for the family, we'd be set, but we'll be happy in a THV or OKW or SSR GV too. After all that is part of why we bought in--lots of options, lots of unique resorts, we pretty much love them all.

I don't agree that getting a room at VGF will be "easy" as it will always be one of the most difficult resorts to book due to the low inventory and high demand.

So far, the current trend (the VGF has only been open for 2 months) is:
Studios are 99% sold out for any rooms in the 7 month window
1 bedrooms are 99% sold out for any rooms in the 6 month window
2 bedroom are 99% sold out for any rooms in the 5 month window
