Just back from our 9/30 thru 10/8 stay at POR, glad the rain held off, it was raining non stop yesterday. Some observations:
Crowds: More crowded that our previous trips, 40th at MK was crowded, but managed to get on quite a few riides, glad I got to be there for that day, got a special button and map and managed to save a fast pass with the date, didn't plan that, but found it in my purse.
Food: Pleasantly surprised! Loved Le Cellier
We haven't eaten there since three trips ago, it was amazing! Had the maple glazed salmon. First time for Mama Melrose, the Calamari was great! Also a first time for us a Boma, was a little worried because I am not a daring eater, loved the Salmon, Soups and Caramel Cheescake. Did not like the zebra domes, too creamy for me. CRT, Cape May, Chef Mickeys were also great as usual.
Merchandise: Seems like they have a great selection these days, can't believe how much we spent
got some great 40th items including a Dooney purse.
Cast Members: Seemed really pleasant and had a couple instances that really stood out to me this time, especially one bus driver.
Transportation: To me it seemed very slow and the buses were always packed. At closing (we are night owls and always stay til closing) they should dispatch multiple buses. Also, I can never figure out why they don't have a bus from the parks to downtown disney, are we the only ones who head there after a park?
Wine and Dine Half Marathon: My brother ran this, horrible set up at the finish line, you could not see any of the runners cross, wierd?
Great trip! Can't wait until my next one, not sure when that will be, we go every two to three years.
Any questions?

). So I asked a CM one time. They told me that it's because they don't want people who are staying off property to park at DTD for the free parking and then hop on a bus to a park....just using the free parking. He said that obviously people can still do it if they're committed to riding a bus to a hotel and then to a park, but this at least deters people and doesn't make it such an obvious option.
