Just back today, however should have been back yesterday!!!
We had a flight out of Orlando at 6:30 last night with a connection in Atlanta at 9 p.m. On the trip down, every Orlando AirTran flight was over-booked and they were asking for volunteers to take later flights, so I was a little concerned about being the last flight of the day on the return.
We boarded right on time and then sat on the plane on the runway for over an hour before the captain announced that they were having technical difficulty. Apparently the fuel indicator was reporting low fuel in left tank. We taxi back to the gate, they add fuel, just to be sure, still reading low. Shut the plane down, start the plane back up...still reading low. Ok, so no one wants to go anywhere in a plane that is not quite right. I have no problem with that concept. Finally at 8:30, we are asked to de-plane back into the waiting area. There is no seat availabilty on other scheduled flights until Wednesday. So they look for another plane that is on the ground to take us to Atlanta because there is a better chance of getting us all home from there. We arrive in Atlanta at 10:30. As you probably already guessed, our connection is long gone leaving 25 of us without a connection to Buffalo, and countless others without connections to who knows where! Ok, line up (We lined up a lot at Disney, but at least we had fun) to get vouchers for a room, one $7.00 meal apiece.....og yes, it had been 10 hours since we had eaten and no one even offered us a bag of peanuts. The $7.00 voucher is only good in airport restaurants. We are given boarding passes for a flight the next morning...no need to claim our checked bags, they will be loaded directly onto to our flight the next morning. It is now after 11 p.m. so we decide to forget about eating and drag ourselves to the other side of the airport to get the hotel shuttle. Arrive at the Holiday Inn....line up again to get a room. Finally at 12:30 we get a room. As an added bonus the hotel is full of guys there for some auto race and they have been over-served in the bar and are quite loud. Five hours later we are up again to catch the shuttle back to airport and have our gourmet $7.00 airport breakfast.
We arrive in Buffalo and you guessed it.....no luggage. Not to worry, it will be on the next flight and will be delivered to our door. Just got off the phone with AirTran, yes, they do have our luggage, but cannot deliver it until between 6-10 this evening. So DH (he was afraid I would hurt someone if I went) is now on his way back to the airport to get the luggage so that DD can go back to school tonight (with dirty clothes)
For all the fun and games we were given a round-trip voucher for anywhere AirTran flied. Only problem...I really don't think I will ever fly with them again!!
