We just got back from 6 days at WDW. It was just DH and I for this trip, so we didn't do any character meals and had breakfast in the room each day. Here are our impressions of the meals we had:
Columbia Harbour House: We loved this place so much, we had lunch here one day and went back for dinner the next day! I had the vegetarian chili bowl and DH had the Captain's platter (fish and chicken strips with fries). The food was really good, but what we enjoyed the most was the atmosphere. We went upstairs to eat both times. The first time we had the entire section to the right to ourselves. The second time we only had one other family sharing the section with us. It was so quiet, and it's nicely decorated up there. It felt like we were in a much more expensive restaurant.
Planet Hollywood: Very, very noisy! The food and service were good, and we were seated immediately. There was so much to look at and so much noise, we found it to be rather distracting while we were trying to eat. And we wanted to talk to each other about all the cool things we were seeing, but we couldn't hear each other talk!
Casey's Corner: I had not had a hot dog in years, so I was hesitant to go here. Boy, am I glad I did! The hot dogs were great. I can't wait to have another one! And the atmosphere was so fun, especially if you're a baseball fan.
Sci Fi Dine-In Theatre: This is a favorite of ours; we have lunch here every trip. We just love the campy 50's sci fi clips and sitting in the cars to eat. If you stick with burgers and fries, the food is pretty good. But we go here for the atmosphere. Fun!!
Cantina de San Angel: We had the wet burritos here, and both of us thought they were great! They were huge though, so neither of us could finish ours. We found a table on the patio right by the lagoon, and enjoyed our meal while looking out over the water.
Chef de France: We had not planned on eating here, and it turned out to be a highlight of our trip! We were going to have counter service for dinner that evening, but the rain was coming down hard and we really wanted to get in somewhere for a dry meal. We checked to see if we could get into Chef de France (since we happened to be standing there at the time!) and were surprised when they seated us immediately. We loved everything about our experience here. The restaurant is nicely decorated. Our server was wonderful, and we had a great conversation with him. And the food - outstanding! We had tuna skewers with fried polenta, and shared a creme brulee for dessert. Lidio, our server, helped us select the perfect wine to go with our meal. We lingered over this meal until the park closed, enjoying the food, the wine, and the atmosphere. Very romantic!
Boulangerie Patisserie: We had enjoyed our meal in France so much the night before, we decided to have the counter service for lunch the next day! I had a ham and cheese croissant and DH had ham and cheese quiche. For dessert, I had a strawberry tart and DH had an apple tart. All of the food was delicious! Although it was still raining (it rained continuously for the last 3 days of our trip!), we found a patio table under an awning where we could enjoy our meal.
Yorkshire County Fish Shop: Great fish and chips! We always find it difficult to get a good seat here; there just isn't much available for how popular this place is. But we lucked out this time. We found a table on the patio on the other side of the Rose and Crown, and enjoyed our fish and chips while looking out over the lagoon.
Kona Cafe: We had lunch here while visiting the Polynesian to see if we might want to stay here some day (we decided that we definitely would!). Both the food and the service were very good. DH and I both had the Island Chicken Sandwich. Yummy! We had coffee after lunch, and this was the best coffee we had at WDW.
Wolfgang Puck Express: I had the spinach and mushroom pizza, and DH had the three cheese pizza. They were both pretty good. This place is very busy, but the price is right and the food is decent. Unless you want to eat at McDonald's, this is about your only choice for counter service at DTD.
As you can see, we didn't have a bad dining experience the whole week. With the exception of our Downtown Disney choices, we hope to visit each of these restaurants on future trips.
