Hi all!
Just back from our whirlwind tour of the World. Tried a few new things this year. We flew in really late from Minnesota and so arranged to stay at the Hyatt at the Orlando airport. Worked really well, I took the family up to the room and then went down to collect the luggage so the kids didn't have to wait for the luggage when they were tired and cranky. My Mom came with us so we used the senior discount on the room which lowered the cost quite a bit. Saturday morning we got the car and loaded up for Wilderness Lodge. Our 2 bedroom (4557) was ready when we arrived in the morning which was great. Nice view thru the tree tops of the lake. We spent 3 nights at the VWL and used the Dining Plan which was a real money saver (table service at O'hanas, Concourse Steakhouse, and Teppanyaki). After 3 days of desserts twice a day though we were pretty full. Had 10 snack credits left (5 of us) the morning we left for Vero Beach so we loaded up on Roaring Fork brownies, cookies, and boxed cereal for the beach part of our vacation.
Off to the beach! Took about 2 hours - seemed longer with the chorus of "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" eminating from the back seat! This was our first trip to Vero but won't be our last. We had the cottage right behind the pool. The deck overlooking the beach and ocean was magnificant! Counting pelicans is my new beach hobby. A quick trip to the store and we were set for two days of beach and pool. My only negative comment is the tiny little bugs that found my daughter and I irresistable - we're still scratching!
After two days - could have stayed more - we were off to the Beach Club (room 302) for a couple of days at the Food and Wine Festival. We were feeling pretty relaxed by this time and only ventured to Animal Kingdom one morning but spent the rest of the time in the pool, Epcot, and my son's favorite, the Beach Club Arcade he doesn't know that arcades exist outside of Disney World. Two days was not long enough to eat one's way around the World so we'll have to make plans for next year!
The multiple moves weren't awful but I think in the future we will probably do the 5 days at the World and then go to Vero for the last 2 days. Better use of time and it was hard to come back from the relaxation of the beach to park days. Weather was great - hot, as usual, but sure beats the blowing snow of Minnesota!
