Just back a few minutes ago and thought I would post this prior to crashing for the night.

We checked in last Friday, late. We were concerned about getting the infamous dumpster view, smoking, handicapped room due to our late check out and large crowds with the marathon weekend. We were very pleased to get a dedicated studio, 1501 if memory serves, the closest possible room to the lodge. It was in great shape!

We used FL tours for the first time this trip. They were on time, very courteous no issues whatsoever. We were unable to take advantage of the grocery stop due to our late arrival. We made it to Publix at 10:35, looked like they closed at 10:30. Stores here are all open till midnight, but our driver said he didn't know of anywhere else that would be open, and it was too late to worry about it.

Saturday was the half marathon, I was supposed to run, but injured my hip during training so that was out. It was very chilly that morning, so I didn't mind missing the race too much! We did Animal Kingdom and had a great day. Made it to Rafiki's planet watch for the first time, that was fun. Dinner at Chef Mickey's which is always a highlight.

Sunday was the full marathon, we have had transportation issues in the past on this weekend getting to MGM, so we decided to sleep in a bit and go to Epcot so that we could avoid the roads (boat to contemporary, monorail) Great idea, except the race ends at Epcot, forgot that part, big crowd, but not crazy big. Soaring rocks! Just wish it was longer... Lunch at 9 dragons, (20% DVC Discount!) Dinner in Mexico.

Monday at MK, breakfast at CRT, Belle was rushed, but others were great. They have a new deal now where they take your pic with Cindy while you wait then sell it to you during breakfast for a mere $31.90 each! Still decent crowd from marathon, but very manageable. Love Spectromagic!

Tuesday was DW birthday. Enjoyed resort then headed to MGM for dinner at Mama Melrose and on to Fantasmic. Wanted to do Millionaire, but they were shut down getting ready to tape for tv. Lights motor action, big hit with me, DD's could take it or leave it. Couldn't get the dinner package at the time we wanted, but German our waiter gave it to my wife as a present, so we still had the easy seating, and easier exit!

Wednesday back to MK, very low crowd, great day! Dinner at Liberty Tree.

Thursday was another MGM day. Wanted to do taping of millionaire, but all tickets were already distributed, and didn't want to wait. Sci Fi for dinner and Fantasmic again.

Friday was MK day, no crowd at all, didn't wait more than 10 minutes anywhere! Swam late, still very warm at 10:30!

Saturday was very windy and chilly, actually windy enough to shut down all watercraft, had to take boat to MK for quick shopping run, younger daughter had bit of stomach issue so we took it easy and then headed home.

Weather was awesome all week, transportation was best ever, never waited more than 5 minutes for any boat or bus!

I'll do my best to answer any questions!

Love my DVC!!

Mike

Can you elaborate on the situation with Roaring Forks being refurbished? What is available in the grab and go section?

While their selections were not extensive they had more than I was anticipating. They have the side that was set up for seating as the food and cashier area and they have a row of tables against the wall in the hallway outside RF. We mainly used it for snacks so I can tell you for sure they had a freezer of Mickey Novelty Popsicles, a bakery of muffins, buns etc. cookies, assorted milks, juices, and beer. I also remember seeing cold wrapped sandwiches, salads, and I think they had a limited selection of hot foods like pizza, hot dogs etc. but no french fries. ( my sister really wanted fries and they had none). Plus they had the beverage area for fountain drinks and coffee.

Thanks for the info. We get there March 18th, I'm hoping it will be reopen by then.

I don't know when Roaring forks is scheduled to be done, but we did get a letter informing us that it would be going through a refurbishment while we were there, so if you don't get a letter, maybe it will be open?

Enjoy your stay!

Mike
