Hi all!

We just got back Saturday, and had a great 3 weeks at WDW. I wanted to give you all an update on the AP upgrade. We did it at DTD Guest Relations with no problems, and we received a credit for the difference! The nice CM stated that she had to apply the $$$ back to a credit card and could not give us cash, but that was no big deal. I was all prepared for an even exchange, so the credit for the difference was a bonus. I quickly spent it though, and said a quick thank you to Disney :)

Just as a heads up........people may need to be careful about where they have this upgrade done.

I tried to upgrade our APs to DVC PAPs over Memorial Day weekend at the Guest relations window at the front of Epcot. They said that they were not upgrading those APs and that no guest relations window in Epcot would do so. I politely told them they were wrong and we'd upgrade the passes elsewhere.

Turns out we never did upgrade the passes as we just didn't have time on our trip to hit any of the water parks, so it wasn't a big deal.

Just be prepared that some places may not do the upgrade.

Funny--we upgraded our passes at Epcot during Easter! Aside from watching where you upgrade, you also have to watch the price of the upgrade. It will change depending upon where you go. We tried to upgrade at the back window at Epcot, over near BW and BC, and were told that we would have to pay $548-$125 discount-the refund of our passport($103)=$320!!!! :rotfl: After reviewing this several times, I told him he was wrong, and went to the front of the park, where we were charged $20 per ticket to upgrade. So check around--you may be able to get a refund on your tickets! :Pinkbounc

We upgraded to DVC PAP also last week after reading about it being done here on the boards.
The first time I tried, I went to Guest Relations at DTD, the woman there was very nice, but wanted to charge me 50.00 per ticket to do it. I didnt really understand her logic, so I just said no thanks.
Then we went to the Guest Relations at International Gateway at Epcot. I had read about quite a few of you having luck there. Well I got this very nice girl who definitely understood what I wanted to do, she had to make a few phone calls and then finally told me that it was normally against policy for them to give back any money in regards to ticket exchanges or upgrades, and they are trying to put an end to doing just that. BUT...since I had bought the passes in December and it was so close to the DVC discount start date that they would make an exception. Well I was very appreciative, I didnt really expect any $$, I would have been happy with an even exchange. But she did have to give me the money in Disney Dollars, which I promptly handed to my DD10. It was like 15.00. So it did work out for us.

You would think by now the CMs would know how to upgrade with the DVC discount.....We had trouble at EPCOT too,(way back in Jan) maybe it was the same CM. He insisted we had to pay to upgrade from a AP to a PAP :sad2: ...We told him no thanks, then waited to upgrade later in our trip at DTD...no problems there....got 10.00 credit for our 2 passes. :sunny:

We upgraded our AP ( got it in Dec) to a PAP and got $10 and some change back - no problems what so ever. Guess we were just lucky.

We upgraded ours last week at MGM Guest Relations. We had to go there because one of our passes wasn't working in the FastPass machines. They fixed that & while we were there I asked about the upgrade. For the 4 passes we ended up getting $21.68 back (in cash).

I just read this thread. Let me know if I could do the following:

We head down on June 22nd. My family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) have regular AP passes. We would like to go to a water park this trip, never been before. I was planning to purchase the water park tickets with my AP discount. We are DVC members. From what I read would I be able to upgrade my passes to PAPs and possibly have a wash. Even if I owned money but it was cheaper than what I would pay for the water park tickets I do it. We bought our APs back on 8/31/04, would that make a difference? I sort of understand what everyone is saying, but then again, I sort of don't. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

We upgraded our passes last week at the Animal Kingdom. The CM wasn't sure if he could do it at first but once he looked on the computer he said it would be no problem and we received $10 plus change back. Annmarie

I'm hearing good things here about the DTD guest relations. We haven't had cause to use the services there yet....could someone please tell me where I'd find that? Thanks! :)

I'm not sure why the poster above would want to go to the bother of trying to trade in passes when your old APs expire in August, anyway, but if you don't mind a little stress, go for it, you might be able to get a PAP out of this, although they will only be good until August. I upgraded last spring so that I can use the Lazy River this summer. That's all I am going for, after that I will leave the park, but since the admission was basically free, that's OK. ;)

I want to upgrade for the same exact reason that you are. I am going to a water park this year and we don't have admission yet for 4 people. If I upgrade and can save over $100, I think I can handle the stress.

Same thing here...our AP's expire at the end of July, but we are going for a lengthy vacation before that and if we can get into water parks and Disney Quest at no additional cost, that will certainly be worth a few minutes of time.

We upgraded our passes six days before they expired, and used the WP's a lot during those 6 days. It was worth the hassle. We did not get a refund, but did not have to pay. It also made us decide that our next ticket purchase will be PAP's. We have always purchased AP's in the past.

We bought our APs back on 8/31/04, would that make a difference?
I thought the DVC discount was for AP/PAP's purchased after 1/1/2005. I am not sure if this will apply to an AP purchased in 8/04.

Call MS and see if they can answer your questions before you stand in line at a ticket window.

Be wary this pass upgrade is no savings!!!! We upgraded our passes (from 8/2004) on our trip down in May. We had no plans of returning down for awhile but the kids wanted to go to Quest so we did the DVC upgrade & got our $20 back. Now (since we have the passes) we are heading down at the end of July for a "quick trip". LOL

I went to Guest Relations at DTD when we were there at the end of April and even though we bought our passes in December 04, she would not upgrade us without a charge and the cm with her agreed that they could not do it and that they had stopped doing it. So we didn't get the upgrade. I guess it depends on who the cm is at the time you go.

We purchased our passes on 8/1/04, and upgraded them end of May 2005. I was asked if I wanted to renew at that time, but I declined. We will not be retuning until next fall, so there was no way I was gonna renew. The CM had no problem w/me declining. She just took a few minutes and handed me my new passes.

The only problem I had upgrading was that the new passes aren't as cute as our old ones with the characters on them :rotfl:

I would suggest if they won't upgrade as an even trade or for the $$$ back decline and try again somewhere else as it can be done. I was prepared for the no, but thankfully I did not have to waste time going elsewhere to try again. I would have though as my kids really enjoyed the water parks, so I think it will be PAP's next year! I guess they will get the $$$ out of me anyway :)

Granny-

DTD guest relations in right after the Team Mickey store as you are walking from the Marketplace bus stops, or before the Team Mickey store if you are coming from the West Side/Pleasure Island areas.

KathyR...thanks for the info on the GR location at DTD. I know right where you mean. :)

Now, after Tigger7570's description of the reception by the DTD CM's, I have no idea where to go to get the best shot at upgrading my AP's to PAP's. :confused3 Sounds pretty hit & miss to me.

I just did this last week at MGM GR. They told me that "policy says they aren't supposed to" give the refund, but that they always do anyway. They were very friendly & it all was very quick & smooth. GR didn't seem very busy there & we went during the early afternoon when the parks seem to get crowded.
