Hi Folks,
Right, just about managed to wake myself up so heres an update on the trip.
Firstly a bit of background, this trip was originally booked (way back in November) for myself, Wife and Son but unfortunately my Wife and I split early this year so my Mum stepped in (and who wouldnt for a free trip to DLP) and thats the cast. I did consider going with just my son as I wanted to spend time with just me and him, but we would have lost too much money on the trip (it was already paid for) plus I thought it may have been a bit too much of a handful for me. Anyway to my Mum's credit she understood that and gave us quite a lot of time to ourselves.
So, on with the highlights:-
Weather absolutely fantastic, this was my 4th trip to DLP in September and never had weather as good at it this. Clear skies every day, mornings were cooler but not cold (what do you expect for late September) but the afternoons were hot and the evenings warm, definitely shorts and tee-shirt weather
easyJet Always flown Air France in the past but easyJet, were so much cheaper I had to give them a try. Did have my concerns from peoples comments and Airport; plus there was issue over the price of the name change from my Wife to Mum (another thread); but got to say their service and aircraft was just as good as AF. OK you dont get a freebie drink and croissant, but at the prices you pay what do you expect, Ill definitely use them again.
Salon Mickey What can I say, how good does it feel to knock on the door and then be welcomed into your very own private entrance into the park. First time as a shareholder so this was a new experience, got to admit to feeling a bit out of place on the first visit but I was well into the swing of it by the second. My Mum was also very impressed; the only disappointing aspect was that there wasnt a crowd of people around when we exited into the park so they could wonder who these obviously important people where!!!
Crowds Or more to the point, what crowds. Probably the quietest Ive know it apart from the Friday. A lot of the rides were walk on even in Fantasyland, whilst over in the Studios RocknRollercoaster was literally empty and even had plenty of space to watch the parade. Great seats for all the shows as well.
My Sons reaction My son has just turned 3 and this is his third visit and the first time he knows who the characters are and whats going on in the shows and rides. He absolutely loved it and his reaction to the characters and attractions (especially Small World, the carousel, AniMagique and Tarzan) was fantastic. People always say they love visiting Disney with children to see it through their eyes, but until you experience its difficult to understand just how special it really is.
Feeding the ducks in Lake Disney Despite all the attractions of DLP my Sons favourite activity every day was feeding the ducks and fish (first time Id seen them, theyre monsters!!!) from the steps leading to Lake Disney outside Hotel New York. As soon as he woke up he started talking about it, so wed procure a few bread rolls from breakfast and spend 20 minutes on the way into the parks just sitting in the sun breaking the bread and throwing it to them brilliant way to start the day.
Buffalo Bills Ive been before but first time for my Son, he loved every minute of it eating his sausages and waving his hat in the air. Bought him a toy rifle in the shop (hes been on at me for ages to get him one and Ive always resisted, but loads of other kids had them and I felt mean) then spent the rest of the holiday worrying in case I got stopped at the airport and taken into a side room where a large man was putting on a latex glove! I was panicking that much that I went straight to the easyJet desk when we got to the airport and asked them what I should do with it, luckily it all went well and I was non-violated!!!
Annettes Diner Another great night, I been there before and wasnt impressed but this time it was great. Had a massive chilli burger and chips, my Mum had a huge salad and my Son had a hot dog with a delicious milk shake. My Son also loved the waiters all dancing and was stood on his chair copying them getting cheered on by the people around us, again fantastic plus I got a 15% discount with my Shareholders Card what more could you ask for?
Thats the highlights, there was a few lowlights which Ill brush over quickly:-
Rude people DLP is full of them, always has been since my first visit. What is it with people that they think they got some sort of right to push by you or get the best view at the expense of everyone else?
Crowd Management despite the low crowds the CMs at DLP just dont seem to be able to handle large numbers of people, especially around the Characters and Parade. I know it must be difficult at times but theyve had 13 years practise now. Anyway, Ive got a bit of a tale to tell about this which Ill leave to another thread, its a cracker!!!
Death by AniMagique and Small World Not the attractions themselves (which are great) but the music which is still going around and around in my head. We saw AniMagique 5 times and I lost count of how many times we went around Small World and I just cant get the music out of my head, "la la la la la la la AniMagique" AAARRRGGHHHHHH!!!!
And thats about it, got myself some bargains whilst I was there (TimberLand shoes from Val dEurope, a couple of park CDs including the new one, and a book on Imagineering), plus Ive now officially joined the ranks of Pin Collectors it had to happen I suppose!
Overall a great trip, and already looking forward to next years, my Mum has already been on to say she wants to come again plus were taking my sister-in-law and her 3 sons so it should be a fantastic trip.
Any questions etc just let me know and Ill be glad to try and answer them.
Cheers
