I was looking for it this past October and November and couldn't find it! Now it's covered! What's the deal!? What a waste of cement to just cover that little spot and take away a little magic from us!!
In all my 40+ trips to wdw, last one being 12-4...that hidden mickey has always been there. It's there just by the way the table is set, why would they take it away? did you look at the far end of the table in the corner?
I wondered why the table setting was sometimes in the hidden mickey shape and other times properly set. Clears that little mystery up for me! If the re-hab rumors are true that will be one sorely missed attraction during the peak summer season.

Gave the whole table a pretty good look but only rode once so it is possible I could have missed it.
As others have said, I'm pretty sure the "official" table setting does not include the hidden mickey. When the suits come through, it gets reset and then some CM or the happy haunts themselves put it back in place.
Wonder why the suits would care if it was there though? It's no secret, it's been on the travel channel shows and their are so many hidden mickeys and not so hidden mickeys and i would think they'd encourage this.
They strongly discourage this. Creativity is fine if you are an Imagineer. Not fine if you are 'just' a CM. However, CM's are welcome to submit their creative ideas for implementation (if approved).
On the one hand, it's understandable. Can't have the workers tinkering with the themeing, now can we? That could certainly lead to all sorts of chaos (really! Not being sarcastic here). On the other hand, some things are so delightful it's a shame they can't be accepted into the format. The HM hidden Mickey is one, the TOT letters are another. They are such terrific little 'gems' it's a shame the Suits are not agreeable.
Well, I'm sad that this little gem is gone, but I am happy for the picture that was posted here. That way if you never saw it, its a "virtual tour" of the ring!
I'd love to know more about the rumored re-hab of HM. We're going May 19th. Pirates was closed the last time we were there . . .
That's sad they got ride of it. But how about if they really put a ring in the cement? It seems the right thing to do seeings as it's such a well loved myth. I know I've showen it to ever person I've taken to HM. It was part of the fun.
I just took a picture of it on the 5th, now I am glad I did. Was it permanently covered or did it look like something temporary so it didn't get ruined during rehab? If it is truly gone forever, it's a shame. Some myths are fun to believe in. Isn't that why we all love DW so much, because we love to dream?
Awwww how sad. I love pointing the ring out to people. Maybe we should all write letters to the Imagineers and protest, demanding that they bring the ring back!
I can also understand why Disney would want to get rid of it for financial reasons. Browse the internet and you'll see people making cash off the story. Now that it's 'gone' (if it's gone! Are we talking about the right place or did they cover another post-hole?) they can't keep cashing in on something that no longer exists.
