OMG on Saturday the 9th the ring was still at Haunted Mansion and on Tuesday it was covered with cement! Can you believe they covered it?

I don't understand. It was just a place that used to hold a post for crowd control. Apparently they don't need it any more. What's the issue?

We noticed that, too. OKW lover, it's not a huge issue, but it was something fun to look for after the ride.

I don't think it's an issue, it was a fun myth that the ring in the cement was supposed to correlate the story of the bride who suffocated in the trunk and her husband who threw the wedding ring out the window after he found her dead.

The ring was fun to look for exiting the ride.

Rumor and myth surround the "wedding ring" embedded in the cement outside the exit to the Haunted Mansion. It is believed that the ring was intentionally put there by Disney Imagineers as part of the attraction's story line. However, many believe that the "ring" in the pavement has nothing to do with the story at all! It is said to be the remnants of a pole that was part of the attraction's original exit gate, which was removed during the last major ride rehab.

It was a bit large to be a woman's ring.
The bride would have to be Shaquille O'Neill! :rotfl:

Are you sure you guys have the right ring? The "ring" outside haunted mansion was a regular ring size and really looked like a real ring embedded in the pavement. does anyone have a picture before it was covered?

Actually, the 'ring' was quite tiny. I wear a size 3 ring and mine fit over that one easily.

I'm horrified to hear this, but I can sort of understand why. In speaking with several of the CM's at HM, some of them are pretty tired of having to answer the same question about something that's not even real. We love the story, but it isn't accurate.

I can also understand why Disney would want to get rid of it for financial reasons. Browse the internet and you'll see people making cash off the story. Now that it's 'gone' (if it's gone! Are we talking about the right place or did they cover another post-hole?) they can't keep cashing in on something that no longer exists.

Tragic! I actually think that it is more fun to watch people looking for the ring than to actually see the ring yourself. Every trip I see some one staring at the ground walking in circles at the exit to HM. Then somebody else typically comes up and asks "Did you drop something?" and then the conversation goes:
Ring Looker- "No I'm looking for 'The Ring'"
Good Samaritan-"You dropped a ring?"
Ring Looker- "No, I'm looking for the bride's ring, you know the bride in the haunted mansion"
Good Samaritan- "Why would her ring be out here?"
Ring Looker- "It's part of the story...love gone wrong...suicide...dropped her ring...Jumped from the mansion..."
Good Samaritan- "So...You dropped a ring?"
Ring Looker- "Never mind."
:thumbsup2 :lmao:

'Tragic' is a good word here. :) Totally off topic (well, sort of off topic), it's a real shame they also removed the dropped letters from the TOT pegboard by the elevators just because they weren't 'Disney sanctioned'. And the hidden Mickey in the HM, on the table in the ballroom, is separated when the Suits come through for a look. Happily, one of the 'happy haunts' moves it back as soon as they're gone. :teeth:

PS: let us know what you see when you get back safetymom. I can't make it over there this week but I'm very curious to know if it really has been covered.

I noticed that. We went thru one time and it was separated. :sad2: Than the next time they were back together. I love that the happy haunts take care of things. :rolleyes1

It was definately paved over on 12/13 when we were on our KTTK tour. Even our guide was suprised. I posted above about this as well, but the CM there said not only did they cover up the ring, but that the HM is going down for rehab for 16 weeks starting in May!! I was incredibly surprised they'd do that in the summer.

I got to see it again on 12/9 and we showed it to our first time visitor that night. I'm glad I got to see it one last time and that he got to see it on his first trip.

I really can't understand why it would be paved over though. It certainly didn't hurt anything to have a special little story. :confused3

Bummer. The ring is gone and I never got to see it! I went to MK at least 5 times after hearing about the ring, looked for it every time, and never once found it. So, I must have been one of those people spinning around that everyone else was laughing at! :rotfl:

That hidden mickey was gone on Thursday 12/14 when I rode HM during MVMCP. :guilty:

Yikes!! The ring was there on Monday morning, the 11th for my KTTK tour. As was the hidden Mickey in the plates the same day. Our guide pointed them both out to us.

We were there last week, looking for the ring, when a CM came around the corner. According to her, the "ring" was actually a mistake. It happened when they were trying to remove a post from the concrete. Apparently, the post was set in the wrong place. The post was sawed off but a piece was still embedded in the concrete. When they tried to remove the part embedded in the cement with a screwdriver, the tip of the screwdriver broke off (that's the part that looks like the prongs for a stone). She said it had bothered the imagineer all these years and he had requested it be patched over in conjunction with an upcoming rehab.

She said most of the CM's were very upset that it had been covered. Apparently, it was there when they left work and gone when the returned the next morning.

I don't know how true any of this is, but that's what she said. :)

I was looking desperately for it back in June (after reading about it on here), but I didn't find it. Now it looks like I'll never be able to see it. :sad2:
