OK, so I only planned for this trip for 1+ years. I read all there was to read, found this great forum, and prepared for the trip of a lifetime...Now don't get me wrong, it was a great trip, but maybe not one to go down in the history books ! :teeth:

I'll try to do this day by day, so you get how some stuff built to where it got !

Day 1: Apr.15/06 - IT's HERE...Time to get on a plane and fly into the warm sunshine. Now I honestly thought that a 6am flight was a great idea, as we would be transferring flights from Halifax to Montreal, and then onto Orlando. Leaving early meant we would get into Orlando at 12pm. Great ! Great for big folks who don't need a whole lot of sleep...not so great for my little folk ( son 4 yrs old ), who is a very bad morning person. :guilty: Mama was prepared though. Dressed little buddy in his clothes for flight night before, and let him sleep to last minute, which was 3:30am...ouch. Did I mention that Mama was more excited than 4 year old, and wasn't able to sleep at all ! So here we are with Mama bleary eyed, and feeling sick to stomach from adrenaline overload, and little buddy, not happy one bit about being dragged into cold car, in the dark.

We get to airport at 4:30am, and have to park in weekly parking lot. Oh Oh...Hubby now tells me, by the way, as we circle round and round, the paper mentioned there was a shortage of parking spots out here...HUMMMM. Finally find last spot at very far end of lot, and have to walk very long, cold way to get to terminal. Also shortage of luggae carts and we drag everything and sleeping kid with us. Did I mention it's only 5 degrees Celius ?

OK, were in ! Nice short line ups for check in, so we start up. Lady from airline approaches us, and informs us that new system is in place, we must now check ourselves in.... :confused3 Huh !? SHe herds us with now wide awake hyper little buddy to a kiosk and says go to it. OK. I figure, how hard is this, swipe a card, put in a flight number, get boarding pass, right...WRONG...I had to input my life's story, and details, all with very impatient people waiting behind me. How do you spell that .... what's the zip code for the hotel...got the phone number honey ??? I CAN DO THIS, even though I'm functioning on no sleep. We get boarding passes, finally after machine ate one, and collective groan went up from crowd...sorry but I didn't eat it, yell at the machine. JEESH. Get our luggage checked, and now wait for flight. Finally, a little peace....Did I mention little buddy is now rearing to go. So excited was he, that while chattering and talking non-stop and eating cherrios dry, he manages to choke and trow up on my hubby, who nicely caught it cause he didn't want to get the airport floor dirty ! GREAT :sad2:

Now little buddy hates one thing the most in this world, and that is throwing up. Full blown crying fit erupts, and makes gag reflex work harder. Funny how that is. OK, now I am a health care professional. I can handle this, with no sleep, and little patience, except, as soon as he gags, I started. Unfortunate chain reaction. :guilty: Hubby now looks at us both like he's seriously re-thinking this whole vacation thing.

We all calm down, get on the flight, and little buddy talks non-stop to Montreal, in a really loud voice only a kid can make early in the morning when people are trying to sleep. Really though, he was great on plane. No issue. Thank God. Mama tried to sleep, but with non-stop chaater from seat next to her, it was a no go.

Connection in Montreal was great. Except for one thing. We'd had a tlak to little buddy aboit walking in the airport and how we's have to do a lot of it. No more than 2 feet off plane..."Daddy, I'm awful tired. Can you carry me please ? Insert batting eyelashes here and soulful eyes". Now my hubby is a big man, but now he has large 4 year old kid and 2 carry on's. No way. Mama sets everything down in the aisle, and has a little talk with little buddy, and lays down the law. Let's just say little buddy got the point, and understands that when Mama is travelling with no sleep, she is a force to be listened to. On the plane to Orlando with no problems. Little buddy now keeping a respectful small distance from Mama whom he seems to think has been replaced by someone else....! :teeth:

Ahh, finally touch down in Orlando. Love to see the palm trees as we come in. We have no problem getting through airport and jump on the tram to get our luggage. Poor little buddy unfortunately thought we were jumping on monorail, and got very excited to see Disney. Had to break his little bubble and explain we were still at airport. Got shuttle to Hertz which is off site, and we were only people on bus. Nice rental car, Camry Solara, but it's only 2 doors. Oh well, little buddy doesn't really need a door. Or so we thought, until we started driving and he realized he couldn't put his window down...oh oh ! Little buddy has almost obsessive thing with windows...how we forgot, I blame on lack of sleep. Both Mama and Daddy put their windows down and ate bugs so little buddy could feel better. Whatever works.

I now take this opportunity to give thanks to MAPQUEST. It had our directions nailed to a "T". Very easy to get to our hotel, Marriott Cypress Harbour. Review of hotel to come next. :thumbsup2

My apologies for typos in first post !

Still April 15/06 - Check in time at Marriott Cypress Harbour - I fell in love with this resort over the internet. It got consisitently good reviews on tripadvisor.com, and was ranked very high compared to other hotels. All units are 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condos. Some are newly renovated, and most aren't. Guess which one I got...Didn't matter though, as we were supremely impressed with the resort as a whole. :thumbsup2

We arrived at 2pm, and the front desk advised us that our room was not ready. Little buddy was wowed by the huge fish tank in the lobby, and ohoh, he caught sight of the pool. Again, very loudly asked pretty please, if he could go swimming, as he had been a good boy up to that point ! Yup, that's what he said, "up to that point" ! SOo, my first guess should have been the up to that point, and if we said no, there were going to be circumstances. Front desk was laughing at his antics, we were getting panicked, as we figured we were due a melt down. I tried to compromise with taking a walk around the pool...great...look at all those little kids...seemingly telepathically calling my son to join them. Just before the major eruption, our cell phone rang ( it's only been 5 minutes ) and the lovely front desk folks are taking pity on us and gave us our room. Whew !! :goodvibes

We got a ground floor unit which I wondered about, but that was soon taken care of when we opened the door to the unit. WOW. Huge condo, full kitchen, screened in patio, right by a lake with a bridge over it, lots of palm trees outside, and a HUGE whirlpool tub in our room. Little buddy was soo excited he temporarily forgot about swimming. The cleanliness of this place was immaculate, and we were very happy with the accommodations. Now to stock it with all the bad food I have not been eating for past 4 months ! :cool1:

Publix was 5 minutes away, and as we were driving to it, realized we are walking distance from sea world. Cool ! :cheer2:

We are now on borrowed time as little buddy has been awake since 4am. Should probably have waited to get groceries, but didn't want to waste time. Wrong move. I had a list of approximately 20 items, and it somehow grew to huge overflowing cart full, as we progressed down aisle. How you say..." Mama, I really want those chocolate puddings...honey you don't like chocolate pudding...Mama I REALLY WANT THOSE PUDDINGS." Now insert loud voice, mutinous looks, and overflowing eyes. Now I am not a pushover when it comes to little buddy getting his own way, but today I have no more left to give...in goes the chocolate puddings, popsicles, pasta, cookies, etc. which I know he will not eat. Hopefully hubby or I will eat it as midnight snacks...yah right... :rotfl2:

We finish off our day with promised swim in pool and collapse in bed at 9pm. Disney tomorrow, come hell or high water, and we are prepared with military like precision to battle the Easter crowds. More to come. pirate:

Day 2 - Apr.16/06 - Easter day at Magic Kingdom
Now as I stated before I had done my research on all strategies to mankind to get the best use of our time, and shorter lines at WDW. Frankly you all here at the DISboards had the %^$# scared right out of me as it was noted as a very, very bad time to go due to crowds. So I took this to heart, and set my alarm for 6am on Sunday morning. ( remember I had no sleep day before, travelled all day, and little buddy is NOT a good morning person...). Hubby thinks I'm just nuts, be he kinda knows not to argue at this point.

I have bag for WDW packed waiting by door, stroller in the car, and clothes laid out. Yes this is done with military precision. Just a note on the stroller, we rented a jogging stroller for little buddy from A Baby's Best Friend in Orlando. It cost $50. for the week, and they delievered it to hotel and picked up when we were done. Little buddy is BIG for a 4 year old, at 46 inches tall, and 48 lbs. His legs hug over the sides, but he definetly needed it !

Soo, when I woke little buddy up at 6:30am, needless to say, he's not a happy camper. I tried the " we're going to disney now" routine, but he wasn't having any of it. So rather than argue I shoved coffee to husband and apple juice to son, as they sat on couch like twin morning zombies. They sipped while I paced back and forth amd gave the " lets do this for the team " speech, and the "we've come a long way to do this" speech. Not sure if they heard me, but they both grunted once or twice. :bitelip:

It's so easy to get to disney from our resort, 10 minutes and we were there. So I'm instructing my husband as he drives further and further in, that we need to make sure we remember where we leave the car, and we'll probably have to take a tram, etc. etc. He interrupts me once to say, "You mean we have to take a tram to this entrance ?" I look up to see that in my yammering, we have gotten parking right at the gates. WOW. :yay:

Ok, this is looking up. We start in and get in line with about 100 other people to wait for gates to open. Nice lady in a uniform told me they would open gates at 8am. Ok, so we have 45minutes to wait. I start eating a banana, when all of a sudden the gates open and I'm caught in a stampede. Wait...what happened to the 45 minutes. Never mind, we're on our way !

Little man loves monorail ride over. Security was a breeze...and then we hit Main Street. Oh My Gosh...the view is great...but there is NOBODY here ! It's like we have the park to ourselves ! :cheer2: We set off at a brisk pace, and I immeadiatley decide I need to drive stroller as hubby is too busy looking at stuff and has already run into 2 people, and the street is almost deserted. We're heading for Big Thunder first. Little man is now soo excited he's rearing to go.

I can't believe it, but there are cars waiting for us to ride Big Thunder. WOW. :woohoo: We get in, and little buddy is so excited, his eyes bright, smiling...for now...as the ride starts, and we go into the mountain, the smile seems a little less bright, and he now has a death grip on Mama's hand. Ok, no problem, wait til he feels the wind whipping by as we get going...OK, my hand is now numb, and he's loudly asking to get off ride. As we slide past stuffed donkey. I'm valiantly trying to salavage this ride " Look buddy a donkey, wait, now don't break the skin on Mama's hand...just close your eyes buddy...more screams, OK...open your eyes buddy, better to see what's coming...nope, not liking that black drop..." Needless to say we got off quickly, and little buddy promptly told us " I'm not going on any more rides at Disney, not even when I'm old..." OK, I have 2 big issues here, little buddy is in full mutiny, and he think's I'm OLD !!! :confused3

As we walk over to SPlash, I know there is no chance in He%$, as he's leaving ruts in the concrete as we drag him over. Now this has been talked about a lot, but I can't force my little buddy to do things he's scared of. Doesn't make sense to me. SO I gallantly tell hubby to go ride Splash, as I have done it before. He takes off at a run, leaving me behind, trying hard not to cry. Actually, I did cry. Like a baby. Little buddy is rubbing my back telling me it's OK Mama, we can go back to the hotel ! :furious:

Hubby comes out dripping and psyched, and I re-vamp all our plans. OK...which rides are not dark, fast, and or scary ??? I tell you what rides as these are the only ones we did: carousel, tea cups, winnie the pooh, race cars, Toon Time train around disney, flying carpets of Agrahbar, jungle cruise, and yup, that's about it. OK...I'm trying to not be disappointed but, JEESH, I should've waited another year or so, I'm thinking. Oh well...gotta make the most of this. Like the troopers we are.Yup...no scary rides, nothing in the dark, great...now I want to go back to hotel ! :sad2:

Speaking on the crowd levels though, we walked on to all the rides mentioned with the longest wait of 10 minutes for the race cars. Didn't need to even look at a fast pass. Even got a seat right away at Cosmic Rays at 12pm for lunch ! So the crowds were light for sure. As we were winding up by parade time ( 1:30-2pm), it was like the floodgates opened, and all humanity needed refuge at Disney. The parade was great, but little buddy had issues with all the "princess stuff" and wondered if there was going to be any diggers in the parade ? Diggers, no little buddy, no diggers at Disney. He slumps in his stroller and says " disney is too hot". Great. I'll just request that the interior of Florida crank it down some. :badpc:

By the time we left WDW at 2:30pm, little man is asleep, and hubby is tired, and I'm still hoping we can salvage the next day and have some real fun. Tomorrow is SeaWorld ! :cool1:

Wasn't the parent swap available at BTMRR? I'm really enjoying your trip report! Can't wait to read more. :sunny:

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for sharing.

Your little buddy sounds like a hoot. "I've been good up to this point." LOL. What a thing for a 4 year old to say. Can't wait to read more of your report.

Thanks for posting!

Loving your trip report thus far. DH and I had a similar experience with DD7 on our January trip. The previous trip (at age 5), DD had ridden all our favorites for the first time...Splash, BTMRR, etc. However, on this trip, she refused to do any of them until the last day. DH and I swapped out, but it would have been much more fun riding with family. DD regretted her decision once she got the courage to step aboard the rides though. Now she can't wait to go back and brave TOT. :)

Subscribing for the rest of your report...

Great story----have you considered writing comedy!!! It is only funny now to you because it is over, you survived. Life is too short to get angry about things.

P.S. we are going May 20-28th with a 5 year old DS with PDD-NOS (he has many sensory issues, and obsessions-I totally understood the window thing for you and your DS)
