Just back from a great 11 day trip. One thing that surprised me though was that many of the gifts shops at every park had there doors wide open all day. In many of the stores the primary door is part of bigger section that opens up so the openings are huge. They were basically not air conditioned. There was no relief from the heat by ducking in the stores. Air was blowing but the openings were so big you could barely feel it. Other than stores like mouse gear and main street store... most were wide open. :(

I know that one of the tips we give Dis'ers to survive Fl. summer heat down in WDW is to hit the stores but they were no relief when I was just there. Some of the rides felt that way also. SE was absolutely stifling :faint:. That ride used to be cold, cold back in the day!

Oh no! Darn John Carter,

Several years ago during a tough time for Disney they cut back on things like the AC and it was not a fun trip. They better be cranking it when I am there in 3 weeks,it's going to be hell hot.

We've always gone in August when it is hot hot hot. One of the things I loved was that you could just walk down main street along the sidewalk and not even have to go in the doors to get cooled off. I can't imagine doing the trip if even going into the stores isn't helping :sad2:

This would be really bad if it's true. Hopefully as we get closer to the heat of summer they will crank it up.:confused3

Even if the restrooms are cold. Who want's to hang out in there!:lmao: People should write complaints to disney, keeping the doors open to stores is totally ridiculous, a total waste of electricity and they are probably doing it so people come into shop. Who wants to shop when it's stiffeling?

The doors to the gift shop have always stayed open, but I had heard that they were raising the temp to save energy.

It was posted here a few weeks ago that the stores had signs up saying that they were going green so they raised the temp by a few degrees.

Do the stores even have doors???? Just kidding but I have never seen one with a closed door, lol. I did notice it was a tad warmer in a few stores a couple weeks ago when we were there last.

Weird. I was there four days earlier this week and enjoyed walking past open doors because I felt the cool air coming out every time. I watched others stand in them at times just to appreciate it. I also found SSE to be comfortable. This is another one of those perception things.

We are at Disney at least once per week. I don't think there was a single store that felt warm, in fact I commented to my DH that I was chilly in a few of them. I have NEVER been stifling hot unless I was walking around in the sun!

There is a reason Disney keeps doors open. It's a psychological thing...open door is more inviting and people wander in. Close doors people are more leerily to try and open it! Also, it was intended by Walt himself to keep doors open to help build the nostalgia of old time Main Street when stores had doors open to keep cool.

You send WDW $200.

They send you Photopass photos of all the attractions at WDW.

If they were truly going green, they'd close the parks. What a ridiculous waste of energy.

You don't expend meganewtons of energy getting you and your family to WDW, dumping tons of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere burning fossil fuels in planes, trains and automobiles, and at the same time you avoid dirtying acres of sheets and towels, thereby eliminating the use of thousands of gallons of Central Florida's precious water per family washing your body grime out of them. The parks could then close with a minimal maintenance staff and a huge savings in wear and tear, avoiding the generation of enough energy to power a large city keeping stores and rides open and functioning, and reducing air and water pollution in the process.

They might have to hire a bunch more photographers, though...

My analysis: As long as WDW is open, and people have to travel to get there, and people stay in resort hotels while they're there, there will be no such thing as a truly "green" vacation at WDW.

Disclaimer: I'm not an "environmentalist," but applied their standards as I understand them to the concept of vacationing at WDW. Your mileage and opinion may vary.

My mileage and opinion do not vary here. I completely agree. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Well, you do know that what an individual does is not the problem that is affecting the environment...it's only what mega-companies or others do. :rotfl:

I remember back when I was a smoker. I once absentmindedly tossed a cigarette out while sitting in line waiting for the light to change. Out of the blue this guy behind me walks up and throws the cigarette back in the car and started yelling about how he wasn't going to stand idly by and watch me pollute his world. After I asked him if he was out of his %&^$%# mind. I happened to notice that his 12 year old pickup was sitting there running and spewing blue smoke out the exhaust. I looked at him and called him a hypocrite and pointed out how much more he was polluting the world then I was. He stomped off and had the audacity to actually call the police and report me for polluting. I explained the situation to the police and they just chuckled and said...well, I had to follow up, have a nice day.

A lot of us don't want a "green" vacation at WDW. As much as it costs for us to vacation there, I don't expect to make any compulsory sacrifices in comfort or convenience. If there was a substantial discount for it, maybe, but probably not. :)

Yeah. One person going to Disney is an environmental disaster. But how many people go to WDW every year?

WDW saying they're going green is like the barbeque industry saying they're "pig-friendly."

You're correct, my opinion does differ. :thumbsup2
