It was sad. Things seem to have changed soo much. First night, we stayed at Polynesian( bad use of points, I know) two rooms, one for myself and disabled husband. Check in , I got trainer and sweet girl earning her ears. When I asked to confirm disabled room, trainer says, you don't have disabled room, you have accessible room- what is that- you can get your husband in the room- but he has no access to bathroom. I ask why would I request a room I could only get my husband into, but never use the bathroom. The man actually yelled at me. It took forever to check in. Man said I didn't request things the right way. I have never run into anything like this before.
Cirque de Soleil- booked that through Disney, party of six adults(4 our kids) Get in, they ask my husband to get out of his wheelcahir and go down the steps- HUH?? he isn't in a rented scooter- he obviously can't stand , let alone walk. I get upset, manager comes, sorry only way to seat us is to seperate one of our party and have them sit with someone elses party, excuse me! I ask for our money back, he moves two of the kids to another section. I could go on and on. Rude arrogant bus drivers, snippy cast members. This report isn't just about disablity issues, in case you think I posted in the wrong section, it is just an observation of a whole different vibe.
Was it the time of year? Is it a general decline?

Daisy Mae,

Your post is entitled with SSR yet nothing in the post is about SSR.

How was SSR? :confused3

Sorry about your other problems.

Sorry about your other problems.

I think her problem with SSR was the fact that she got an accessable not Disabled room. The new CM might not have known the difference and this is where the problems started.

OP sorry about that it seems some people dropped the ball all around.

Sorry, SSR was nice enough, not exactly to our liking, way too big for us. Rooms were beautiful though.

The sweet girl earning her ears didn't yell at me, it was the trainer, she actually apologized when he was out of range

what is the difference between accessible room verses a disabled room?

I wanted a first floor guarantee, but told me they could only do that for a HA room. But person is 6'5", so having everything at wheel chair height won't work....

And I believe I had a HA room (Studio at Vwl), it had a roll in shower with sprayer, and little seat.

How is disabled room different than HA?

Thanks, Goldi

(And how would a requestor know which to request?)

This thread is not DVC specific. I am moving it to the Community board, as it seems to try to cover several different topics.

To answer the question about handicp rooms...there are several different handicap room configurations. Some have modified bathrooms, some have only grab bars. You really need to be specific as to what you need (roll in shower, ground level so you can get into the room with a wheelchair/ECV, etc.)

I'm really sorry to hear about the problems you had on your trip. To answer your question about whether there is a general decline, we just got back a few days ago from 6 nights at BWV and we didn't find that to be the case. We had one of the best trips ever. Most of the CMs we encountered were friendly and helpful. Some went out of their way to be especially helpful. The few exceptions either appeared very tired or distracted but not at all rude or unpleasant.

Here's hoping your next trip has more of that Disney magic... pixiedust:

Thank you and when I reread the post I see much of your dissapointment was with not getting your HA room.

Once again I'm sorry you had to endure this at the world.

I thought she was complaining about her check-in at the Poly. Did the problem with the handicap room happen at SSR?
